The Role
The work experience was great, I learnt a large variety of new skills both on new software I have not used before. Working for Arup was great, it was a very sociable office and made me fit in right away. Everyone is very helpful and wants to help you learn.
My colleagues at Arup were great they made me feel apart of the team from the day I arrived there. The team were all there to help you learn and improve your knowledge on the building services area as well as involve you in the social activities which would take place after work or during lunch.
The support provided from management was very useful, I would have continuous check ups from supervisors regarding my progress and what I thought about the company to ensure that I was getting on well and to check if I needed any help on any specific work.
The work at Arup was also frequent there would also be a task available for you to do which would help the project. Even if there was not a task available for you to work on the project then there was an opportunity for you to use the companies moodle site to help further your knowledge on your chosen topic. I found moodle very useful and provided me with alot of knowledge.
I was given alot of responsibility whilst at my internship at Arup, I was given the opportunity to attend internal coordination meetings as well as attending meetings with the architects. I was left alone to complete specific tasks which helped to save time for later in the project. After each task I would have a small review with the team leader to ensure that the task was completed to a good standard.
The skills which I have developed will be very useful for both future use and for use during my degree. I learnt alot of skills which I would have not been able to experience at Uni and therefore that has helped me to be prepared for the future.
The Company
The atmosphere in the office was great, everyone wanted to help you out and also everyone wanted to work hard and completed their tasks.
The work placement was very well organised it was structured well and provide me with alot of opportunities.
The company provide me with the use of moodle to use to help further develop my knowledge on the various topics which were involved within the project. The senior guy involved in the project spent alot of time with me to explain certain parts about building services to help develop my knowledge more.
Flexi Time
Sports and Social Club
Future employment prospects are very appealing to me and I would like to have the opportunity to work for them in the future.
The Culture
The social scene was good between fellow placement students, we were both involved in social activities outside of the office.
I travelled in everyday to the office which was a reasonable price and the social aspect of the area was also reasonably priced for a city centre.
The nightlife in the area I worked was very good it was very lively and enjoyable.
There were plenty of opportunities to get involved in a range of activities outside of work, I was involved in a five a side football match between a range of different colleagues on my floor.
