The Role
I really enjoyed my internship since it has been an amazing experience from many perspectives. I learnt to manage complex tasks and gained a deeper insight into the acrivities of a big bank like JP Morgan. I could also meet manu people from all departments and ask questions and advice.
I felt extremely valued since I was involved from the very first day in the activities and tasks of my teammates. I was never left alone when I had doubts and I constantly received support. I managed to collaborate with all colleagues and this allowed me to get familiar with many areas of the business.
I was very supporter and guided. Every week I was offered teach ins, I was invited to conferences and could ask questions. I was assigned both short and long term projects and received constant feed back. I also had a change to meet people from HR who helped me a lot throughout the internship.
I was very busy during the day since I was actively supporting my team with the daily activities of my colleagues. However I found work life balance was perfect. Even during the busiest day I was able to go home at a good hour and had time for myself. All in all, my colleagues kept me busy and challenged me a lot but never prevented me from having a private life.
Since I was involved in activities that other members of the team were engaged with when I wasn’t there, I took on great responsibilities. I felt very happy about it because this gave me th chance to really challenge myself. I had to call people from other department for collaborations and felt my colleagues really trusted me.
I felt my studies in international management and finance have been really useful for me throughout the whole summer since I had to implement many things I had studied in theory at university. Some finance competences allowed me to understand more easily the tasks I was assigned. But also the ability to engage with people from all walks of life and the soft skills to collaborate with my colleagues were extremely important and I believe my master really helped me with that.
The Company
The atmosphere in the office was really nice. The team was big, since there were 20 people in it, and people came from many different countries. It was thus very pleasant to work there and even in the most stressful days people managed to always be kind and helpful when I needed anything.
The internship was extremely well organized. Every week we had the chance to join seminars, meetings, conferences and we were constantly given the chance to individually reach out to people to organize activities. We had weekly emails keeping us informed in what was going on in the firm and which were the events specifically organized for interns.
I believe they invested a lot in me. From the very first day people spent time in teaching me how to do things, even complex tasks and were not afraid to giving me responsibilities when they thought I was ready. It has been very important to approach work in a mature way.
Company Parties/Events
I have been offered a graduate scheme and I would be interested in joining to learn even more about the many department in global treasury management. The internship is a great occasion to understand the firm and the culture and be ready for a longer working period there. I think the employment prospects there are extremely good.
The Culture
There was a great social scene. A very large number of interns were there during the summer and we had many occasions to meet each other. Many events were organized for us and it has been great because a very lively community was created and it was also very useful to hear about other people’s experiences.
It was pretty expensive, both traveling card and food. Travel card cost me 132 pounds per month and two weekly tickets at the end. Restaurants were also pretty expensive, however supermarkets are pretty affordable. I didn’t incur in other costs since I didn’t travel during the summer outside the UK.
It was very good. Many bars and pubs as well as restaurants to go to after work in Canary Wharf. During the weekend it is easy to go to the centre where there are also clubs and restaurants. I was living in Kings Cross which is very lively and nice.
I believe there were not many opportunities to be involved in social activities outside work because work is intense and there are many social events organized for interns so it is hard to have time to get to know other people. However, I know there are also Facebook groups or other means to know people.
