The Role
I had an absolutely fantastic experience at J.P. Morgan. I learned absolutely tons both from my team and other employees that I spoke to. There was a wide range of networking opportunities where I met some great people, and the work I was doing was visibly making an impact on the firm.
I definitely felt valued by colleagues. The tool I was working on was feeding directly into my team's workflow, and I also had the opportunity to release the tool to colleagues in different teams around the world who seemed extremely excited to use it. My manager and his team regularly showed his appreciation for my work.
Support from HR was fantastic - they were extremely responsive be that via email or through IM. I asked a number of questions over the internship and all were responded to almost immediately. My manager demonstrated numerous frameworks to me and explained how they could be used to complete my tasks.
It varied quite a lot. My manager worked from home quiet often and for a lot of the time I (and the two interns in my team) were left to create and assign Jiras as we found issues etc. In maybe two of the ten weeks I had more work but that was more due to requests from other teams on top of my usual responsibilities.
I (and the other two interns) were solely responsible for the development and maintenance of the tool we were working on. I was also solely responsible for developing and maintaining a different API being used by teams around the world. None of the work was "difficult" to the point of it being a burden, but it was definitely a lot of responsibility!
The skills I developed over the course of this internship are invaluable. I learned so much over 10 weeks that I never would have learned from my degree course - working with JIRA, Jenkins, Java Spring, Docker containers, REST APIs, Angular and so much more. I have no doubt that these are all skills I will come to use time and time again in the future.
The Company
The atmosphere of the office is unbelievably friendly. Prior to joining I was given differing information on dress code, but upon arrival it was obvious that casual was the overriding theme. Everybody that I spoke to (and I mean everybody, from the cleaners to the MDs) was friendly and more than willing to help me in any way they could. The floor I was on had a jokey atmosphere, and we regularly had a laugh with the people sitting around us (some of whom were Executive Directors!).
Once I started the internship the organisation was fantastic. HR events were all sent to my calendar so I always knew where I was supposed to be. Campus recruitment also sent out weekly newsletters with important information and any action points for that week. There were a number of useful training and development events organised, and campus recruitment also hosted weekly drop ins for any other issues. I had some issues before the internship, particularly during on-boarding. I was often told to contact my recruiter with any questions but I was never told who that was (until my first day). We also had to provide documentation in person which was irritating as it was literally a five minute job.
J.P. Morgan have an extensive training offering, both internal and external. I spoke to numerous people who said they were studying for masters degrees funded by J.P. Morgan, and many others had taken training courses in the past. I was also a part of a Global Technology Infrastructure development group which provided weekly training on a wide range of skills.

I can't remember the exact numbers but I can say that everyone I know who didn't get an offer for next year had a specific reason why (e.g. they didn't want it, or they were interested in a different area of the firm). I think pretty much everyone else got an offer to come back.
The Culture
Yes. Campus recruitment organised a few events over the course of the internship with an open bar which was great for meeting people. Within my team we went for drinks at lunch around halfway through, and I also regularly spent time with the interns on my team. Less of a social scene after work due to me commuting in more than anything else.
Not cheap, but not outrageously expensive like London. Meals in the office restaurants were decently priced (mainly because most of the food is priced according to weight). Expect to spend around a fiver on lunch if you get a normal sized meal. Vending machines slightly more expensive (£1.30 for a bottle of Coke etc.) but nothing too ridiculously.
I didn't take part in any of the nightlife - I commuted in to work via car so getting drunk wasn't really an option unless I got the train on a particular day!
Definitely. We all took part in a corporate responsibility day at a beautiful nature reserve, and I was offered a number of other volunteering opportunities. All of this is handled on an internal website where you can simply sign up for things that interest you, and you then get emails when opportunities come up.
