The Role
The internship has been a marvellous experience. I have learnt a lot and despite the initial learning curve, my manager was very patient and kind with me. I have greatly enjoyed how everything was organised, we had some special events that were really good for networking opportunities with other interns and the HR team has been always very approachable and helpful.
The team I did the internship on was divided between New York and London, and the only team members in London were my manager and I. Because of that, there wasnt a lot of team plans outside of work that would allow for a deeper relationship. However, in a professional manner, all the team and specially my manager made me feel that I was an important member of the team and that my work was very relevant and necessary.
In business management we have a learning curve every day because we dont have BAU. However, you can become better and faster at problem solving and I believe my manager provided me with all the necessary tools to do so. Every time I needed any kind of guidance she was available for me.
We were quite busy because I believe the team is a bit understaffed. I was very fortunate because my manager was very conscious on fostering a good work/life balance. I didnt get bored a single time and I even had some difficulties to complete my online training because something important always came up. I believe that is the best experience I could have gotten, and made me feel that my work was important.
since the early stages of my internship I was trusted with a lot of responsibilities. I worked in what i think are important projects for very senior stakeholders and despite always being conscious of the my role as an intern I am very proud to say that in some instances some stakeholders contacted me directly to work in their projects.
I have already finished my studies but the skills I got during the internship have allowed me to land a full time role within the company which is an outstanding opportunity. I gained an extraordinary mix between technical and interpersonal skills. I also believe the skills I gained are highly transferable .
The Company
It was a bit quiet because I was surrounded by a lot of senior people from Market Research. In the team there wasnt a lot of young people which translated into a very quiet environment. We were all quite busy and didnt have a lot of time to foster personal relationships
To be sincere, this should be marked with a 20. The entire internship was smoothly organised, everything was ready for my first day, we were provided with all the information we needed in advance and HR was always there to assist us in any kind of problem we could encounter. There was also special chats to provide direct support to interns and constant catch-ups with HR.
The firm has invested a lot in all of us. It is not always easy to start working with complex products in a complex organisation like JP Morgan but everyone has always been very keen in teaching us anf helping us get the best experience ever. Everyone is very busy but they always find time to help you gain the necessary skills and knowledge, even if that meant that they were going out of their jobs late. Amazing experience. I am also very grateful because the company invested heavily in us even knowing that we were leaving the company when we could start contributing back.
Financial Bonus
Company Parties/Events
I was so delighted with the internship that I have joined the firm as a full time employee. I will join back in a few weeks and I am greatly looking forward to build a long term career in J. P. Morgan. They have proven to me that they are an amazing company that heavily invest in people.
The Culture
All the interns had a very close relationship and I am sure I have gained some life-long friends. Because the firm also organised a lot of social events we had the opportunity of fostering relationships both in and out of business hours. The relationships were also very good with the HR department as they were always approachable and very easy going.
To be sincere living in London is quite expensive, however, the pay is more than enough to survive. Because I was working in Canary Wharf there are cheaper options in the east of the city. It is still more expensive that other locations but is affordable. Good experience overall ! .
Canary wharf has surprised me because of its night life. There are a lot of bars and places to visit for a drink or a nice sunset. In some instances I went there even on the weekends to have a drink with friends because of the good ambient. it was also not very expensive!
There was some opportunnites but not a lot. We did go for a few amazing events that were organised by the company, like the corporate challenge (a charity dash) or the social responsibility day. It was very interesting as an experience but apart from that, there wasnt a lot of things to do after. I believe that it is also difficult to get involved when you have been only 10 weeks in the company.
