The Role
I had a great time. My team and the campus recruitment team were very friendly and welcoming and ensured that I felt valued and was looked after. I was given meaningful work and got to see the impact it would have in the wider company and was allowed. There were lots of fun social and networking events that were also great fun outside of the working day.
I felt very valued by my colleagues. My manager and senior developers on my team both allowed me to make my own decisions about the project and they seemed to appreciate my opinions. I felt well supported and that my team really cared what I had to say with regards to project decisions.
I had a one-to-one with my manager at least weekly, and further catchups with the product owner and senior developers on my team throughout the 10 weeks. I also had formal meetings with the Campus Recruitment team and my manager twice through the internship. Management were very good at giving career advice and guidance for completing my education.
On an average day, I would always have something to do and was never bored. I got the chance to work not just at my desk but to attend meetings regarding the wider aspects of my project and I never spent a full day just sitting alone, there were always opportunities to work in different ways and learn new things.
The other intern on my team and I were given full responsibility for our work. We were given the guidance we needed to make our own decisions but were given ownership of our project which was a really nice. I felt that the team trusted us to do a good job but also made time for us to ask questions.
The skills I have developed are in line with my career goals and I am feeling a lot more confident about going back to University, as I have learned a lot of things that will help me with software development. I also learned a lot about agile development, teamwork and general networking and soft skills.
The Company
The office was friendly and we were given independence. Unfortunately, some members of my team were located far away from my desk, which was not ideal for the team dynamic, but there was always something going on in the office and plenty of events to drop into and free food going around!
The internship was very well organised. I cannot fault the Campus Recruitment team. We were given a schedule of all the events on the first day and sent calendar invites for all of the events, as well as a weekly intern newsletter. Everything we needed to do was easy to access and complete. There was a good mix of events and drop-ins if we had any questions too.
I feel that the company investerd a lot in my training and development. I was given the chance to attend in-person training events and community of practise sessions, as well as my manager organising one-on-one training sessions with senior developers where we had gaps in our skills. We were also given lots of tips for our own development from upper management.

I think that J.P Morgan offer a very competitive graduate program and there are lots of job and development opportunities with them across the world. They seem to offer a lot of career progression and I was offered a full time place on their graduate scheme at the end of my internship.
The Culture
The social scene was great. There were lots of places we could sit together and socialise during breaks and lunch, and the social events, hackathon etc. in the first couple of weeks set up a great social environment for the interns. I feel that I have made some friends for life.
Glasgow is a very cheap city to live in. Rent can be around £400pppm and socialising is very cheap. In cheap bars, drinks out cost £1-2, and there are lots of good independent restaurants where you can get a main meal for less than £10. Travel is also inexpensive, with subway journeys costing £1.70.
Glasgow is a very vibrant city, with lots of different bars and clubs, there is really something for everyone. It is also relatively cheap to go out.
There is lots to do in Glasgow. At work there were a lot of clubs such as running and ballroom dancing. There are also lots of things around the city, including a massive cinema, indoor skiing, roler skating, music concerts and gigs and theatre.
