The Role
At the moment, still working. It has been 2 weeks and so far it is going great - so basically being trained to use softwares such as Primer, D3Plot, T HIs, Javascript etc. So far it has been a very good experience to go forth it, would highly recomment it.
At the beginning was nervous about how people would treat the newcomers. But proven wrong, everyone is friendly and welcoming, like they are happy for you to join them even as a placement student from university. Even though we are just placement students we are being treated fairly and equally.
So far in the training week I have recieved a lot of guidance and support in using the software as it looked very complicate to begin with. But over the days it has been inproving while guidance and help is always available whether its one to one or even through the skype app.
Even as new beginners on placement from university, we have been busy since the beginning. At the moment, a typical day involves completing tutorials and many training tasks (e.g. mock QA tests, Primer training etc.) So, pretty much you will be occupied with different work at the same time during the day.
Right now I have not got the biggest responsibilty - obviously as a new beginner. I am still undergoing training, meaning that I have not yet started on any important and relevant projects. However, the responsibilities will increase over the next few weeks as I will hopefully be working on some projects.
Even with 2 weeks I have gained a lot of valuable knowledge of this sector and how it fits into the engineering and automotive industry. I can apply these skills into mroe software that uses this type of technology and hopefully see if it can become a part of my final year project.
The Company
General atmosphere is friendly, rooms are well lit with windows surrounding the buildings giving a nice and pleasant view of the outside. Got my own work station and was tidily arranged and well organised when I got to it. Tea point meetings are often arranged where people can socialize.
Placement has been very well organised from the get go. From the inductions, to the health & safety inductions, the tutorials, training and future project plans - everything has been looking well arranged so far. Got 3 other students from the same university - so it is helpful to discuss university work as well as working.

The Culture
Yes, at the moment it is me and my fellow Coventry students - so right now socialising is not a big problem. Staff are friendly as usual and willing to help and talk so therefore has not been much of a hassle to get around the office and have a talk.
At the moment there has not been any exposure to night life around the work area. Around my own area which is still located near my work, there are a few places that you could go to - like the ice rink, a bar, a place for arcade, bowling, pool etc.
Right now the only activity is going to the gym straight after work which is a it stressful seeing that I get back home late at night due to the location of the office and gym as well as the time I finish work. So time is really tight for activities.
