    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • JPMorgan really encouraged networking throughout the internship. I bonded really well with the other interns which made the experience really enjoyable. We were given a lot of freedom and independence throughout the internship as well. I would really recommend JPMorgan as a great firm to start off someone's career in the financial industry.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I have found that this is dependent on the team you have been placed into. My team was one of the smallest, comprising of 2 employees, 1 grad intern and me. The grad intern was their first ever intern and it became quite clear that they weren't too sure on how to allocate me work, especially due to the particular team I was in. In that way, I felt that I wasnt carrying out many impactful tasks. However, this experience cannot be generalised to the entire internship as many other interns have had a strong role and relationship with their teams

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • On a day to day basis I was mainly given sufficient support by the grad intern that was in my team. Besides that, HR held optional weekly meetings should we have any enquiries or worries about the internship. We also had occassional talks/presentations about the different types of roles we could be in in the LOB

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was busy for the first few weeks due to all the online courses, talks, etc. However, because the team I was in did not have a very strucutured role, it was hard to delegate me tasks. Hence, about halfway through the internship I had quite a lot of idle time. Although, that did give me the opportunity to schedule more shadowing.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Despite not receiving many projects, I've realised that they do entrust interns with quite a deal of responsibility otherwise. Whenever I completed a task, they would trust that it was done correctly except that I always checked in halfway through and requested for them to check on my work after it was completed as well. They also entrusted us to be professional and competent enough to contact anyone externally and internally

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The greatest benefit I have gained from this experience is having exposure to the corporate/banking environment so as to confirm my career aspirations. It also improved my excel competency and networking skills at all levels of seniority, which will be a highly transferrable skill in any line of business. The amount of social events and the extent to which they encourage networking in the firm really helps interns develop a greater understanding of the workings of a bank and the types of jobs available.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • As my team was placed on the trader floor, the environment was busier and more dynamic than other floors.

    3/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The general internship was well organised in terms of presentations, team allocations etc. However, for my LOB it was made very clear that not all interns received the same opportunities or were given the same expectations (e.g. whether they had to give an end of internship presentation and the duration of it).

    2/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Everyone received an excel training course in the first week, and multiple presentations so as to give us a better understanding on the LOB. It is also worth noting that those who get accepted into the graduate scheme will have CIMA paid for by JPMorgan over the course of the 3-year placement.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Sports and Social Club

    Company Parties/Events

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I was lucky enough to have received a graduate internship offer from them. They also do support internal mobility should someone be able able to prove their capability.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • The social scene amongst the interns was really good. For the first few weeks, we had group lunches, after work drinks and a house party every Friday. I believe I will remain close friends with most of them, and it makes coming back next year that much more exciting. Although this doesnt apply to me, I am aware that some teams host monthly/weekly team activites (e.g. lunch or after work drinks).

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • My office was in Canary Wharf in London so the general cost of living was expensive especially since drinking at the nearby bars was typical after work socialising activity. However, the cost was not anymore expensive compared to other parts of central London. There were also sometimes events such as free mini golf and free outdoor screening of movies

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • There wasnt much nightlife in canary wharf, however central london wasnt far away

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • JPMorgan has a couple of societies which people can join and take part in the social activities planned. There are also events planned for special occassions for example the World Cup. The firm also has sport teams and events such as corporate social responsibility day which is a great way to meet other employees from other divisions
