The Role
My time with the company was brilliant. I have received such great exposure to the working world and learnt so much. I believe it should stand me in good stead for my working career
The people I worked with valued me very highly and on numerous occasions actually seeked out my opinion on topics. I was trusted with a number of key tasks and I felt much more important than a standard intern
Everyone I worked with always had their doors open for questions and within my channel, everyone was incredibly supportive, including weekly meetings to discuss my progress
My workload was in many ways decided by myself. I always had things to do, and I decided very early on that I would only get out of the placement as much as I put into it
There were a number of things that I was given responsibility for that initially terrified me. I had a huge budget to spend on advertising, and had monthly meetings where I would present to some very senior positions amongst others. I am so glad I was given the opportunity to do this.
The skills I have developed mostly are covered by a much improved understanding of the working environment and of how the corporate world works, which will obviously help me going forward. I have also gained skill based development, including Microsoft Excel and Pay per Click advertising
The Company
Everyone was very friendly and so easy to get on with. I would say that because of this you would be driven on to make sure you were doing the best work you could to help the team as a whole.
I think the company organisation was particularly impressive. There were a number of times that things worked out perfectly to the benefit of all. I think the most impressive thing was that the company helped to pick up the slack left by the lack of organisation by my university (Loughborough)
There were a number of training courses throughout the year for the whole sales team, which I was allowed to complete alongside the permanent members of staff. I addition, the amount of time invested in me by my channel was very influential and has improved my working attitude as well as the work I complete.
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Above 25 days holiday
While there is no current graduate role in the company where I might be interested in working, I had such a great time during my placement that I would certainly want to come back in a few years time. If that was an opportunity that presented itself, I would likely grab it with both hands.
The Culture
There were 6 placement students while I was there, including myself. We all got on pretty well, but I feel like there wasn't much of a social scene between us. There was however a really good social scene between the whole company, whether that be pub quizzes, parties or getting together for a 5 a side match.
I live very locally to the company, so was very lucky to not be paying as much as many of the other placement students. As such, it was a lot cheaper for me than I'm sure it would be for other people. However, I think it isn't too expensive given the location because so ideally located near to London for socialising at weekends if that was something that you wanted to do.
I'm not too much of a fan of the local nightlife. This may be however because I've lived around here my whole life and have gotten too used to the area. It is well located however that trips into London are very easily accessible
There were multiple pub quizzes, multiple parties including one for christmas and a boat party for summer on my second week. We also had semi regular 5 a side games and for pancake day even entered a local pancake race which was a load of fun.
