    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt valued by colleagues. They were willing to support me whenever I felt stuck and always pointed me to right resources for more help.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My manager was fantastic. He was really calm and gave me work according to my abilities. He gave me a lot of support through 1 to 1 meetings weekly. He never made me feel pressured. I felt relaxed even when I was struggling because I new he would help me.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was perfectly busy. I always had work to do. I always felt that I was up against the clock. It was never just sitting around being bored with nothing to do. Also, despite feeling busy, it was not "stressful" levels of busy. It was ideal for me. I only stayed late once or twice during the entire internship.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a task and allowed to explore ways to approach the task. So I had to be responsible for that. However, I still had to validate my approach with manager to make sure that I was doing the right things. Overall, I was not given too much responsibility but just enough to make me feel independent.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I feel the skills I have developed in terms of software development and programming will help me a lot in my computer science degree and career beyond. Specifically things like agile methodology, continuous integration and deployment, source version control, unit testing, mocking etc.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • It is generally good. However, it did feel that different teams were kind of isolated and you only ever interacted with your team.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • It was well organized. I felt I received enough information and support before and during the internship. The networking events, talks etc were well dispersed throughout the internship.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • There were 2 types of trainings - compulsory training which was online and about things like anti-corruption, GDPR, compliance etc. And there was technical training which was not compulsory. A lot of resources were available and we were allowed to choose what we want to learn.
