The Role
I really enjoyed my work placement of my internship. As I did not really know what the tasks and business purpose of my team was before I was positively surprised. I could work with an extremely dedicated and friendly team which also gave me the opportunity to engage into networking. The organization of the program has been very professional, and I really value the open culture of the company – with senior management being very open-minded and eager to accelerate my personal development.
I really felt valued by colleagues. Most of the time they gave me direct feedback and really valued my work. They also showed me where to improve and how to deliver even better work. It was great to see how my work fits into a whole process and how this aids the client's needs.
My team gave me a good mixture of guidance and support and also the freedom to figure out tasks myself. This really enhanced my learning and my skill development. As I was given a buddy, an analyst you can reach out to for any kind of question and advise, I had always someone to contact when I was stuck and needed new input.
Some days where busy but in general it was too quiet which was due to the summer period. Thus, there were days where I had barely anything to do. To prevent idle time, my team gave me an autonomous project to work on, which kept me busy and gave me more opportunities to learn.
I was given a lot of responsibility early on and my opinion was always valued. I could really feel how the amount of responsibility given grew throughout the internship, that tasks got more advanced and more challenging. Also through the individual project I did, I was in charge of the full project and thus hold a lot of responsibility there as well.
My internship made me grow both personally and professionally. Senior management has also been eager to accelerate my personal development. I definitely think that I can use the technical skills I learned in my further studies and also the finance and business knowledge I acquired will be very helpful in the future.
The Company
Atmosphere was good in the office. People were very helpful and I really valued that senior management was sitting with us on the floors and not in separate offices. Thus, for a couple of weeks I was sitting next to MDs which really gave me the exposure I had searched for. Was was a negative aspect is that there is no lunch break and normally, everybody eats on its own. There is not the culture to grab food together and eat dinner together.
The organization of the program has been very professional, and I really value the open culture of the company – with senior management being very open-minded and eager to accelerate my personal development. Was was outstanding are the events, HR organises throughout the internship. There are several Social and Networking events, a Senior Speaker Series etc
I think the firm does invest a lot in the development of the interns. We had more than one week of training before the internship, which included Finance, Accounting, Excel, Boomberg and several Research Platforms. Regarding investment in people, J.P. Morgan is definitely outstanding. Also regarding the training you would get, starting as a full-time analyst.

Prospects are great as you have the chance to get to know different business areas and also can switch offices. There is a mandatory rotation program after about 2 years. Thus, you definitely get the chance to see other business areas, switch between product and industry group and meet new people.
The Culture
Fellow students and other interns were really social and I got to know many during the networking events taking place over the summer.
London is really expensive. J.P. Morgan does pay a relocation bonus, but the life in London is really expensive in general.
Nighlife in London really offers a lot. There a many rooftop bars and people always gather outside for after work drinks.
As working hours are quite long you have only time to engage in other activities on the weekend.
