    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The internship was an excellent opportunity to gain an insight into EY and the work they do. Although it was a quieter time of year there was a range of tasks in different sub service lines for me to get involved in. The team were very supportive and friendly which made the internship an enjoyable experience.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • The team I was working in were very friendly and supportive, which meant I could approach anyone for work or if I had queries. As I worked for different people on different projects I got to meet lost of people, all of whom were supportive and happy to assist me across my internship.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Supervisor made contact with me on the first day and was easily contactable after that to answer any questions I had. When I was working for other members of the team the were all very approachable and helpful, and were happy to answer and questions I had about the work.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Throughout the internship this did fluctuate, with some days being busier than others. Overall despite the time of the year being quieter, there was enough work to keep me occupied. Also different members of the team with busier schedules passed work onto me which made sure I had work to do.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • The time of year meant there was less worse, but I was still invited from early on in the internship to join client meetings and calls, while some of the pieces of work I assisted with were going to clients. There could have been more chances to take responsibility though, although this was dependent on what was available.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills I developed covered both technical skills relating to the work and more general work place skills. The technical skills will help me in understanding this role and future roles I apply for better. While the more general work place skills will help me in how I approach my work at both university and in my future career.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The office had a very friendly and supportive atmosphere, with our team interacting regularly with other teams sitting near us - but also maintained a good working balance. It was an atmosphere where it was easy to approach people and ask for help, whilst people still were clearly working hard.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Overall the whole internship was well organised, with clear information about the internship beforehand and clear information on the induction events. It was easier to get going and involved once in the office. One slight critique would be that the end of internship event should have been advertised earlier so that we knew about it sooner.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I think the internship as a whole was a good investment in us, but was more of an insight and an experience over a real technical training exercise. It certainly gave good exposure, but was too short for any real training. In terms of development there was a lot to learn and take on board which will certainly be beneficial.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • 4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • The future employment prospects are very appealing, as the professional qualifications are a massive investment, while there are numerous different offices, teams to work in or at, with lots of different people to work with. The firm certainly had quite a young feel to it, which was encouraging as somewhere to join.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There were not many interns in my office, and numerous colleagues were an annual leave across the internship so the time of year probably prevented this.

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The area costs were fine.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • This wasn't really of interest to me across the internship.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • This was one area the internship could have been improved on. There were a few events/opportunities outside of work but not many. Again this could be down to the time of year, but there did not seem to be much on offer. I was aware of other stuff in the office, but not as much in my specific team.
