    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I couldn’t have asked for more from my internship at EY. A great balance of getting to know my colleagues and being thrown into meaningful work, I had the best experience I could imagine. Everyone was super friendly, the work was rewarding, the people there are great and I couldn’t speak more highly of my internship.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt very valued as a colleague. Other colleagues do not disregard you because of the fact you’re an intern. Instead, they treat you like every other employee, and always have time available to speak to you. I was given good work to do, and was not once asked to go and make a tea or coffeee. Everyone really values the work you’re doing during your internship.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was given full guidance and support by my colleagues. You’re really not expected to have a super technical background/understanding of the complex issues and so asking questions to gain that understanding is crucial. Managers and colleagues understand this, and are always happy to answer any questions, both about the work and their careers. There really is no such thing as a silly question and they are always happy to clarify or explain further if there is something you do not understand.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was very busy during my internship. There were a few times where I did not have much project work to do, but this is a great time to catch up with colleagues, or read articles about the previous work EY has done. I loved how much work I was given, as it shows how much EY values your contribution.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a lot of responsibility during my internship. For example, one of the tasks that I worked on was a document that was to be sent to a regulatory, explaining the clients timeline of what they were planning to do and by when. This was seen as a very important part of the process and to have been given a large responsibility for it was great. You really can see that work you are given actually matters, and that you aren’t given work for the sake of it.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Throughout my internship I was able to develop my PowerPoint and Excel skills that I didn’t during my degree. These skills will almost certainly be used in my future career. I also did two presentations which developed my confidence and general presenting skills, which will be helpful later on in my career.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere in my office was good. I was based on client site, and the room was full of consultants. It was always very busy, which is an atmosphere I enjoyed. When at EY’s offices, things were a bit more relaxed but you could always tell that people would be willing to help you with whatever you needed.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The student recruitment team did an excellent job of organising everything, from socials to our inductions to the CSR day. The information provided was in a timely manner and was very clear, and I was given plenty of work to do which helped with experience. Everything was a smooth experience.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • EY has a great online learning platform where you are able to learn about a variety of technical and non technical skills, which is a great way of developing your knowledge. My counsellor was also very helpful in setting up my presentation, which allowed me to develop my skills in a setting that wouldn’t have been possible on my own.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Sports and Social Club

    Company Parties/Events

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I really hope to get a job with EY following my internship, as I’ve had a great experience. The culture is super friendly, everyone is willing to help, and everyone does know their stuff. It’s easy to contact people, the offices are nice, and the canteen does great food - which comes in handy for the work!

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Luckily it is really easy to get to know other interns on the internship through socials. A lot of people are always willing to go for a drink after work, and the social side is always important when completing the internship. All of the interns were easy to get along with, and student recruitment also help organise socials is a nice added bonus. During my internship, I was even invited to a team dinner for a three course meal!

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I worked in London, so naturally food and drink is more expensive. But that’s not really at the fault of EY. The EY offices do great food and drink. I was able to get a decent sized full English breakfast for about £3.50, and they also do decent tasting lattes for £2 which is good for an energy pick up

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • It’s London - you’re not spilt for choice. There are loads of bars, pubs, clubs in London so it’s really a case of taste. EY colleagues do have their favourites such as the Horninan Pub by Tower bridge which is always a good option. If you’re in Canary Wharf, people always flock to the grandstand bar.

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • As mentioned, I was able to go to a team dinner at a nice restaurant in London. There are also sports teams and various networks which you can get involved with. I was very busy on my project and so unable to fully immerse myself in them but they are spoken very highly of.
