The Role
As much as an investment banking job can be enjoyed! The team that I was placed in was fantastic and there were several social events where everyone could let off steam. Most of the analysts in the team were away training during my time at the Bank, so us interns in the team were treated as full time analysts, and given lots of real work and responsibilities.
During our training week, the head of the team had a BBQ at his house for the team, which the interns were invited to too! It was a great way of getting to know everyone in an informal setting. Everyone made an effort to chat to the interns and take them out for meals etc.
The associates that I worked with were very generous with their time, and were very invested in my personal development - constantly teaching me the best way to do things, as well as new skills such as financial modelling
Most days I was very busy, and a typical day would look like 9am-12/1am, with lunch at my desk and a takeaway dinner in the communal area on the floor. There were however some quieter times and on a couple of occasions I was able to get out before 7pm! I've put 10/10 because being worked hard was exactly what I was looking to get out of the internship, as it allowed me to learn a lot.
Lots. As mentioned above, I was treated as a full time analyst, and had a workload to match. However, the associate would always check thoroughly through everything I did, so that if I'd made a mistake, it would always be picked up before anything was sent to a client or an MD.
Excel and powerpoint skills are invaluable for any job, and the ability to read a company's story through its financial statements will be useful for any finance role.
The Company
Deutsche hasn't been receiving brilliant press recently, but the morale on the floor is still good. Everyone in the Bank works hard but is also always up for a laugh. I think that's very important when you spend most of your waking life next to your colleagues.
The internship was extremely well organised. I've done a previous internship, and compared to that, HR put in a lot more effort to organise events for us, train us (we had over a week of training including financial modelling) and make sure we were getting on fine. For example, they made a rule of no weekends for interns unless an MD approved it, and they followed up on this religiously.
As mentioned, we were lucky enough to have a lot of training allocated to us.

I received an offer for the 2019 graduate scheme in the same investment banking team I was in for the summer.
The Culture
We'd try to go out for drinks and stuff as much as possible, but it's hard when everyone's so busy. In the final week there was lots of partying!
It's London obviously...
London is the best city in the world for nightlife.
Not really. I imagine it would be different for a full time employee - there would be societies and things to join.
