The Role
PLEASE NOTE: This review was for a placement at Lloyds TSB prior to Lloyds TSB merging with HBOS to become Lloyds Banking Group. (The RateMyPlacement Team) The work was not challenging whatsoever. A child could have carried out the tasks I was handed. The team-building exercises were, if anything, patronising. The Graduate recruitment team are hyporcitical: they claim to encourage development and growth during the programme but begin rating you from day one and hold early performances against your recrod, regardless of improvement made.
While my colleagues on the office floor were very kind and welcoming, I was provided with no responsibilities or extra work even when I asked for some. This was irrelevant to my performance as my evaluations showed I was exceeding expectations - I was still not included in many of the on-going projects.
Very little help was provided by the Graduate Recruitment management. Any advide received form them was generic, impersonal and frankly irrelevant to me. I did however receive valuable advice and pointers from managers I had personally made contact with outside the formal program.
I had far more time than required to carry out my tasks. I did have certain days which were considered busy but only because most of the internship I spent time reading the financial press to kill time.
While the Graduate Recruitment team claimed to reward initiative and performance, and while I was evaluated as "exceeding expectations" I was provided with very few challenges. I even specifically asked my line managers on three accounts for more challenging work but was handed tasks a twelve year old could have done.
Valuable skills learned in presentations and report writing. However, the bulk of my learned skills form the internship resulted from my own personal effort. I would recommend to anyone on any internship to take it on themselves to seek out challenges.

Appealing but not within the division I interned in.
