The Role
Barclays was an excellent place to apply and develop the skills I gained through my masters in finance. I thoroughly enjoyed the rotation schemes and the flexibility to accommodate rotating through different desks in trading and structuring.
I felt that my input was listened to and valued by my colleagues. The experience was an incredible opportunity to learn from senior management and to learn from seasoned practitioners. The level of exposure coupled with the freedom to undertake your own research made me feel like part of the team.
My supervisors were sharp, engaging and approachable. They were there to answer my questions, challenge me and push me to learn and grow. I thoroughly enjoyed interacting with them and learning from their experience.
My expectations for the trade floor were fulfilled: I was constantly challenged and immersed into my daily tasks and projects on the floor. I enjoyed the fast pace and the feeling of being challenged on a constant basis.
In addition to my daily tasks, I was responsible for delivering credit deep dive analyses and trade ideas. I was also tasked with identifying potential implementations of different trading strategies during my second rotation.
Strongly recommended. Grew my skills by: - Applying the knowlege I gained through my MSc - Developing my understanding of markets and the techniques used by practitioners - Giving me the tools to develop professionally beyond the internship
The Company
Exhilarating, absorbing and inspiring. Recommended to anyone who wants to experience the markets in their purest form.
Objectives, daily tasks and presentations clearly outlined. In addition, great support from buddies and guidance from senior management.
The internship included one week of training which was unrivaled compared to my experience at other banks, and sessions with senior management where they introduced their area of business.
International Travel
Company Parties/Events
Full Time Offer in my division of preference.
The Culture
We had division drinks, lunch/coffee with senior colleagues, breakfast with senior management, met amongst interns for dinner and had a final party. I made long lasting friendships and grew my network inside and outside of the bank!
London is expensive, however the E14 area (Canary Wharf and Isle of Dogs) is relatively cheap. Canary wharf is full of places to eat and have a drink, and the company canteen is cheap compared to the restaurants nearby.
London has everything to offer in terms of nightlife, you won't be disappointed.
The firm organised all kinds of talks and activities which ranged from shareholder events and presentations to inspirational talks organised inside the firm.
