About You
Very much so! I found the insight day at BDO to be a very useful and enjoyable experience, which allowed me to gain a better understanding of the accountancy sector. The insight day was well-structured and allowed me to develop new skills and meet interesting and engaging people at the firm. Overall, a very enjoyable experience!
Given that the BDO experience was just an insight day, it is difficult to pinpoint exactly how valued I felt during my experience. Nevertheless, I was welcomed warmly into the company and BDO employees went out of their way to ensure we had a valuable and informative experience at the firm.
I recieved a great deal of support and advice on the applicatio process at BDO, which was very benefical. Furthermore, I found the graduate recruitment team to be very supportive throughout the insight and expertly guided us through the day. All employees that I had the pleasure to meet at BDO were very encouraging and supportive, providing lots of useful advice.
The information and skills that I gained during the insight day are truly invaluable. I found out a great deal more about graduate programmes and what they entail, as well as the other great opportunities available to employees at BDO. Finally, in terms of skills I was able to practice my interview skills when engaged in the mock interview exercise.
The Company
The structure of the day was very well thought out, offering an informative and enjoyable insight into BDO. There was plenty of opportunities to ask questions, find out more about the company from current staff and interact with fellow students who are going through the same recruitment process. Overall, the day ran very smoothly.
The general atmosphere on the insight day at BDO was relaxed and welcoming. This was mainly down to the extremely friendly staff, who took the time to get to know each of us individually. I also found the other insight day participants to be very friendly and this instantly put me at ease.
For the short time that I was at the firm, I believe that they did a great job in investing in our personal development! I was able to practice my interview answers and skills. I was also able to develop my communication and confidence when talking to employees and other students. The firm invested in me by allowing me to attend the event free of charge.
The insight gave us the opportunity to interact with members of staff who had previously been in our position as university students and therefore could relate. As such speaking to them about their experiences did help me understand what it would be like to have a full time role. Furthermore, we were given a clear explanation about the exact roles of the different schemes by which we could be employed by the firm.
During this insight, we had the opportunity to learn more about the culture at BDO as the staff spoke about the social aspects of their jobs and we got to learn about how they all work together within the company and their teams. Overall, it was clear to see that BDO has a very open and collaborative culture.
Whilst I am unlikely to pursue a career in this sector, I found this insight to be very beneficial in confirming my intention to pursue a career in the legal sector (I am currently undertaking a law degree at university), as it re-affirmed that my interests in fact lie elsewhere. However, I was able to get a lot out of this day and I would certainly recommend it to anyone interested in accountancy and finance.
Everything Else
I was not paid for this insight day, nor reimbursed expenses so I would recommend applying to an office close to your home or university. Food and drink was provided throughout the day.
Yes, there were plenty of opportunities for networking and meeting employees at BDO.
I very much enjoyed the networking and socialising at BDO!
Yes, I was able to find out the various activites and opportunities available to staff by speaking to employees.
Yes, I would absolutely recommend this insight to a friend!
