The Role
This truly depends on what happens throughout the placement - what project/s you end up choosing to work on, what your goals are, etc. For me, both the projects I've worked on were both good. The first one was within an internal department. They provided training on the technologies they use and I got to enhance my skills in web development through those and the project they made me work on. The same goes for the second project for a client.
The placement was split into 2 parts. Throughout the first role, I was adapting to the style of work and was with more senior colleagues so although I felt valued, I was not given as much responsibility as I was for the second project. In the 2nd project, I was given a lot of responsibility and ownership over tasks and felt fully integrated into the team.
My managers on both roles were always happy to answer any questions I had. Both of them were extremely supportive and clear and concise in their explanation of project work. I have learnt so much from working closely with such an experienced team and I feel that both of my supervisors helped my professional development.
The first of my projects was more sales based and this would mean that i could be extremely busy and then the next day have much less work to do. Nonetheless, I always had something to be getting on with and the work was manageable. The second project i did was run through an agile way of working so the workload was very consistent.
As previously mentioned, the responsibility I had varied depending on the manager or supervisor. However, generally, I was given ownership over a large volume of work. Additionally, I was proactive in letting my supervisor know when i had additional capacity so I could take on responsibility for more work. I participated in many calls and face to face meetings as well.
I have learnt so much in the last 6 months. My proficient in Microsoft office has improved drastically and I have used new programs such as Jira, Visio and Teams for the first time. The experience I have gained using these programs and the additional training I did on MyLearning will be extremely going forward. Not to mention client contact and developing my communication skills as well.
The Company
In FCS (the main office), the atmosphere was really good. There are a lot of facilities and modern work arrangements such as telephone boxes and hot desks. It is located in an amazing place in East London and the office is easy to navigate. On client site, the atmosphere can be quite different but is generally very good as well.
The placement was very well structured overall. We had an introductory training week with sessions on personal branding, core company values and opther useful information. I also went straight into the projects and never spent any time waiting on the bench. I feel that the structure of the program maximized the overall value of doing the internship.
As previously mentioned, we had a training week and we were given free sessions on how to use complex excel formulas and other software. There is a portal available to all interns and employees where you can do courses for free on almost anything. There are also many social events and chances to grow your network.

The future work prospects at Accenture are very appealing and there is a very clear and scalable career path. Within 2 years, you can be promoted and work your way up and there is a very appealing salary offered. Both managers review your performance and decide whether to offer you the job after 6 months.
The Culture
The social side of Accenture is amazing. There were a lot of team events and socials organised, as well as intern drinks. There are drinks every Friday on the 4th floor and our team frequently went out to watch the world cup when that was on. We also had a Whatsapp group to speak to other placement students at the firm.
I was based in West London in Notting Hill. This was a good location as it was well connected but it was quite expensive and absorbed a lot of the monthly wage. The tube can add up quickly but generally the cost of living is manageable if you cook food and bring it in and only go out for lunch occasionally.
The nightlife was great as the office is based in East London. Especially for young working professionals, there were a lot of places to go for drinks and meet with other colleagues after work. The office is very close to Shoreditch and Central London so it is a perfect combination. Overall the nightlife was really good and everyone has always something to do.
Yes, Accenture offers many clubs and societies and I engaged in the tennis society. They booked courts in the Olympic park and offered opportunities to play every 2 weeks. When on client site, Accenture also made an effort to offer these options and I played 5 a side football every Monday down in Newbury.
