    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I enjoyed the internship at JP Morgan as it provided me with a completely new perspective on the work environment as I have never worked in a corporate environment before. This allowed me to stretch my communication skills and improve my networking skills as well as learning more about how HR ER is set up.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt very valued by my colleagues. I was provided with lots of support when I needed help. As of my contribution to the team, I feel that I was able to support them with reducing their administrative workload. Since the team was extremely busy I could tell that they appreciated my efforts.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was provided with significant support at the start of the internship as I needed help with learning how the systems operate. My manager also helped me by setting up several meetings with other EEs involved in the GPS ER process. However, I felt that I was not given lengthy support on who I should network with in terms of getting a better understanding of the HR function (aside from meeting other analysts).

    3/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was relatively busy most of the time. However, there were quite a few of the days that I would fill my schedule with catch-ups as there would not be a lot of work for me. The reason for this was because my role did not allow me to pursue investigations on my own and as a result, the majority of my work would involve updating the EE database and take notes.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • During my placement, I was given a significant amount of responsibility as I was in charge of communicating updates on certain cases in meetings on a weekly basis. As this carried a certain amount of responsibility, it did not challenge me to the extent I would have liked as it was quite a straightforward process once the operations had been put in place.

    3/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills I developed during my internship are crucial to my further development as I learned a great deal about time management, corporate environments (which has improved my communication skills, self-presentation) as well as helped develop my self-awareness. These skills will help me better undertake my studies as well as interact with other professionals after my studies.

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • It was a positive atmosphere which was very open and friendly. It allowed me to quickly get to know other EEs in the office space as well as ask for help when I needed it.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship was organised well in terms of the networking opportunities, however, the overall work and tasks which I was involved were less well organised. It took three weeks to gain access to a software which was crucial to actually be able to contribute to the team. I would have liked to gain a better insight into GPS ER by being more involved in resolving cases.

    2/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company provided few personal training/development opportunities. The overall experience allowed room for self-development, however, there were very few activities or opportunities to receive personal training.

    2/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Sports and Social Club

    Company Parties/Events

    2/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • The graduate role is appealing, however, future employment prospects are less so, as the size of the firm means that receiving more responsibility and opportunities for growth are dependent on the time you work for the company.

    2/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • No. The HR interns were all scattered in different offices. There was a very large tendency for colleagues to keep a separation between their personal and professional life.

    1/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • It was quite expensive in the Canary Wharf.

    1/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • It was ok, nothing too appealing.

    2/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Hardly any opportunities were highlighted.
