About You
I really enjoyed the insight week. I felt like it was well structured and I was able to gain an insight into different business areas. I also was able to partake in different activities, from job shadowing to preparing presentations. I really enjoyed getting to know the people in my insight week more and felt like this really helped for the group discussion.
I felt valued as people really took the time to explain their role and background at RBS. Never once did anyone say 'I do not have time for you'. In particular, I felt valued when we were allowed to work on an executive summary for a meeting. Everyone was really friendly and helpful.
Before the insight week, I would have appreciated receiving more information about the week. Rebecca Kay has been a great recruiter; she has been really helpful and guided us through the whole week and we were able to ask her any questions that we had. I really enjoyed the assessment prep and thought it really will help me in the future.
The main skills I learnt were communication and research skills during my presentation. Furthermore, we learnt a lot about teamwork in our group discussions. The assessment prep has been really helpful in guiding me on how to improve my CV, my networking platform and assessment centres.
The Company
The insight week was very well structured. I had clearly scheduled days and knew exactly where to be on what days. The expenses we were allowed to have reimbursed were clearly laid out and the expenses form was easy to follow. I was explained what to expect for the assessment day. The only area that I felt was not as well structured was that before the insight week I was not really told what to expect. I would have appreciated if I were told for how long the days were, what will be assessed at the assessment centre and what I had to bring.
The general atmosphere was incredible. Everyone was so friendly and helpful and you could ask them any questions that you had. Due to all of the people on the insight week spending a day together on the first day, most people staying in the same hotel and always going for lunch and dinner together, we were able to really get to know each other well and were really supportive of each other.
We had different opportunities for personal training and development; we were asked to prepare presentations and group discussions and RBS' staff was really helpful in explaining what we had to do.
Every role is really different depending on what division and role you had. We only were able to shadow in a couple of divisions so I was not fully able to understand what a full-time role would be like as it really depends what division you end up. However, I was able to gain an insight into the structure of the roles and also the structure of the grad role.
It really helped me get an insight into the company culture. Everyone seemed to really love the culture at RBS and explained to us what makes RBS so special. I really loved the atmosphere at RBS and believe it has an amazing company culture.
It helped me understand more what the company does and how much more it is than just a bank. I do believe though that I need more time at the company to fully decide on my future career path. I believe that the summer internship will be a great opportunity to find out more about RBS and will help me decide on what to do in the future.
Everything Else
It was really easy to follow the instructions of the reimbursement form. It was clear how much we were allowed each day and think the amount was reasonable to cover all expenses.
We met many different employees who gave us a great insight and said that we could add them on Linkedin or email them for any further questions. We had networking lunches were we met people who were part of the Women in Business campaign.
We had networking lunches and were able to meet many employees. We were able to socialise with other people at the insight week and often had meals together.
We talked to employees about the activities that are able to get involved in. We were told it sometimes is a bit harder to get involved in but that they are available, you just need to find them.
Yes, it is a great opportunity. I learned a lot and have made some great friends.
