    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • It was a great and highly intense experience; the focus was on me learning and getting to know as much as possible, as opposed to me helping out, which was an incredible learning experience

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Really supportive work environment; questions were more than welcome and when I needed help (even when I called people that did not know me), people were always more than willing to dedicate time to me. Suggestions for improvements were liked and encouraged.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Could not have been better; again, questions were very welcome, opinions / discussions encouraged. Help was given whenever asked for. The learning experience was very real, allowing me to get great insights into the desks where I worked.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • There was always something to do / read / learn (and more than I had time to do), but most of the time, I was very flexible in terms of scheduling and could decide myself whenever I wanted to fulfill my tasks (within the deadlines).

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Although I was given several tasks that were afterwards sent to clients / directly used by the team, my responsabilities were quite risk-free, because you always have someone overlooking what you do / training you.

    3/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Working on one sales and one trading desk, I had the chance to directly apply what I had learned at school and during my former work experience, and could critically analyze the differences. Also, the entire program, the different encounters with Managing Directors and desk-specific events helped my identify better where I would want to work after finishing my studies (for example, I could possibly imagine myself working at one of the desks I rotated through). It gives you such a great insight into what working on the trading floor is like, and the structure of the program also allows you to get to know so many different areas that your vision of where you can add value the best will be much clearer.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Really great (and a lot better than what I excepted). Coming from the buy-side and knowing the 'aggressive' reputation sell-side banks have, I was more than surprised to see such a collaborative and supportive work environment. I had a lot of fun!

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The program had a very high number of events, some of which were organized all at the same time and were announced pretty late. I guess this comes with the nature of the business, because we had a lot of high profile speakers, and in a permanently changing market environment it is not always easy to plan their availability, but a more balanced schedule would have been nice. During the last three weeks there were some many things happening simultaneously (events, final project, tasks at the desk), that some nights ended with very little sleep.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • A lot. DB schedules 4 different types of events for interns: very personal lunches / dinners with Managing Directors; informative speakers about current happenings; area-specific events that inform about the responsabilities of different desks and leave time to network with other areas; events to get to know the other interns better. Don't think there is anything to add, very balanced.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Financial Bonus

    Company Parties/Events

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • 5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Great; DB encouraged us to spend time together and it was great exchanging perspectives. We met a lot for lunch and went out at night.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Work is very intense, but working hours are ok.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • A lot of bars.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • 4/5
