About You
It was a great opportunity to learn about the firm and about the banking world in general as well.
All the employees were extremely welcoming and were open to answer all sorts of questions. They ensured our stays at Edinburgh and the firm were no less than perfect.
The early careers team in-charge of handling the insight program were very helpful and briefed all the students through every step of the way. The people I shadowed answered all my questions and gave me as much information as they could.
I learnt that soft skills are extremely important in firms today. It's not necessary to have a specific degree to go to any field but to have the right skillset. I will focus on expanding my skills in the future to make myself more employable.
The Company
It was well structured and planned. The whole days plan was individualized and given to each student. It not only involved the information about timings and places but also the contact numbers of people we would be shadowing.
It was a very friendly environment. The early careers team was also very chill and didn't let a serious and tense atmosphere to be created.
They gave us information about what type of skillset is required and what type of a pitch to have.
Although, I shadowed only 3 people I got a great idea about what it would be like to work here. They were honest about what part of their job they liked and didn't like to get a better understanding.
The company is all about supporting its employees and providing excellent customer service. Their mentor programs and daily talks with other members of the employees is one of the things which made me understand their supportive culture.
I had never been involved in a technological field before. I never thought I could go in tech field because of no prior knowledge but I was proved wrong. I now understand that you can go to any field you wish regardless of your degree.
Everything Else
I was reimbursed all my expenses just a few days after the insight. The hotel and travel were already paid for by RBS.
Yes, i were given the opportunity to shadow three employees but spoke to a lot more. I spoke to their team members and networked witht hem as well.
There was a careers day as well which was great for networking ask you could speak to employees from all of the fields in BRS.
I learnt that they had a great work-life balance and had lots of extracurricular activities outside work. They played sports within the bank and also attended workshops and classes to develop other skills which were offered at RBS.
It was a great learning opportunity. I'd recommend it to anyone even if they're not looking to go into banking because you can learn so much about how businesses operate.
