Commercial Banking Female Insight Week Review

The insight week was very enjoyable. I particularly enjoyed shadowing different people as it allowed me to gain an insight into the various roles and areas within RBS and commercial banking in particular. People were really friendly and always happy to answer any questions we had, no matter how serious or silly they were.

I felt valued during my time at RBS as the people there were always happy to listen to us and offer some genuine advice. They seemed like they actually wanted to help us and their honesty was really appreciated. Since it was an insight week, there wasn't a chance for us to do any 'real' work but that's understandable.

We received plenty of guidance and support during the insight week. Rebecca was our main point of contact and was always there for us if we needed her. She was only an email or a phone call away and always made sure we were happy and well looked after. I really appreciated the support we got for the assessment centre we had at the end of the the week. We had an assessment centre and interview workshop which was really useful and allowed us to ask lots of questions.

I don't think my time at the insight week will help me much with my degree however I do believe it will assist me after I graduate. I did not know much about commercial banking when I started but the week gave me a real insight into what it is like and areas that I could possibly go into which will help me in the future.

The insight week was very structured. The first day was an intro day where we received talks from various people with different roles. Over the next two days we shadowed different people and there was also a session on assessment centres and interviews which was used to prep us for the assessment centre on the final day.

The general atmosphere was really friendly and relaxed which surprised me. We were genuinely there to learn and were not assessed or judged during the week, apart from at the assessment centre. People were easy to talk to and happy to help which made everyone feel comfortable and not afraid to ask questions.

The insight week was only four days long therefore there was not much of a chance for RBS to invest in us. We had an assessment centre and interview workshop which was helpful and could be useful for any other future interviews. We were also able to shadow different people, some of whom were quite senior.

There isn't a better way to find out what it will be like to work at a company other than being there yourself. This insight week was a snippet into the life I could expect at RBS. I learned about the culture, the hours, the type of work and the general atmosphere.

Being at RBS helped me understand the culture of the company. Not just from being told what it is like but also from just seeing it myself. The culture was quite relaxed and RBS is very focused on its values which has an effect on how people work as well as the culture of the company. The fact that some employees have left other firms to come back to RBS shows that it must be doing something right in terms of its culture.

The insight week was quite valuable in terms of helping me decide on my future career path. I did not know what I wanted to do before and although I am not set on one job, it has given me a clearer insight into my options. Commercial banking is very broad and there are definitely roles within it that interest me.

I have only just submitted my expenses form therefore cannot be sure that I will be reimbursed but it's highly likely I will. We were given an allowance for breakfast, lunch and dinner on days that we didn't receive it. I did not need accommodation however I believe it was paid for by RBS.
