    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • My internship provided a great opportunity for professional development. I had the chance to network with a wide range of employees at different stages in their career which showcased all the possibilities at J.P. Morgan.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Colleagues gave consistent feedback and I felt as though I was a valuable member of the team. I could always understand the need for the work I was doing and how it would benefit my team and the company.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My managers were always willing to give me some of their time, even if they were really busy. I never felt like I had no one to turn to and a had a wide support network within my team and outside of it.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Although I was given work by my team, a lot of my day was spent having overviews with colleagues from around the business which I organized myself.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • During the internship I was given a large amount of responsibility. My managers gave me work and left it to me to complete it to the best of my ability but they were always on hand to help if I felt unsure about something.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I have gained excellent experience in networking and now feel I can socialize with and learn from senior employees. The internship coordinators also organize workshops which provide extremely useful skills such as Excel.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Atmosphere in the office was excellent. The dress code is very casual for an investment bank, but no employees over-use this and employees are still presentable dressed. I feel this gives a more comfortable atmosphere to the workplace which can amplify productivity. The office is also organized like a campus so there is a really nice community feel.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship is 10 weeks long and campus recruitment provide a 1 day induction at the beginning of the internship. This is very useful to meet other interns and hear from important employees. Campus recruitment set up events throughout the internship such as skills workshops and networking events which are very useful. The structure is very organized as there are mid-internship reviews and end of internship reviews.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • During the internship, the various events organized by campus recruitment show that the company really are investing in their interns. Senior employees give up a lot of their time to attend networking events with interns where they are happy to provide excellent advice. I was also pleasantly surprised that when reaching out to all employees, they are always willing to give you some of their time to explain their role to you which is really helpful in learning about the wider environment of the firm.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Company Parties/Events

    Healthcare/Dental

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Throughout the internship it was stressed to us how important they consider mobility to be. I was able to speak to many employees across the globe who have started at my office and have moved to different offices around the world. It is also made clear how the process of moving up in the hierarchy works.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Although the social scene is perhaps not as good as in big cities such as London, campus recruitment do a really good job of organizing socials for the interns. These give you the opportunity to hear about the experiences of other interns and also gives you access to a wider range of contacts within the company.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I can’t comment on the cost of living as I was living at home, but the cost of socializing is a lot lower than in big cities so you don’t feel like you are taking a big chunk out of your salary just to be able to socialize with other interns.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Nightlife in Bournemouth is really good as there is an event on every night. Club entry is also cheap. If clubs don’t appeal then there are a lot of nice bars and restaurants, including some that overlook the beach with a great view. Drinks are also very cheap on nights out.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There are various sports teams at the campus which are open to interns joining them. There is also a gym next to the campus which employees are allowed to go to during the day. There are also great volunteering opportunities in which you can go to local charities and help out in various ways.
