The Role
My placement year at SAP was one of the most fulfilling years I’ve had. I was challenged, pushed and given opportunities to make a real difference. I was given extra training (completing sales, admin and product demonstration training). I couldn’t recommend working for SAP enough as a placement student or full time employee.
I was quickly integrated with the team with each of them taking time out to help me in anyway possible. By the end of the year I not only had colleagues, but I also had mentors, coaches and importantly friends. After leaving SAP I regularly keep in contact with many members of the team.
All of my managers became coaches and mentors to me and really pushed me to go that extra mile. They took chances by giving me responsibility and jobs that were above and beyond. This is on of many reasons that I enjoyed my placement so much. I felt as though people were really interested in seeing my progression.
Workload depends on personality, time of year and other factors. As a quarterly run business, SAP gets very busy at quarter end. Aside from your core role you can get involved in other projects/departments so that you can make your workload as busy as you feel capable. I took on lots of work as I wanted to be constantly challenged.
I was given the opportunity to run my own accounts with manager guidance as well as collating all days for forecast calls, ensuring systems were updated and that the team had all the help they needed. I can’t thank my managers enough for this as it gave me a real sense of purpose.
The skills I’ve taken away from placement will definitely benefit me at university and further working life. SAP are fantastic at taking an interest in developing early talent. Soft skills like time management, communication and presentation skills were some that I massively developed. I’ve taken these back to university and feel as though I have grown a lot since second yes in these areas.
The Company
Great atmosphere. There wasn’t ever a day that I woke up and didn’t want to go to work which says a lot I think. I had a great team and I absolutely loved the buzz especially at quarter end. There was an indescribable feeling especially when there were big wins for SAP and the customer.
Very well organised.
My managers and those in charge of the placement programme took invested vast amounts of time and money in ensuring we had the best training possible. We had internal weekly training as well as external speakers and training days. One of my highlights was partaking in the sales training for business development.

SAP Sales Academy is arguably the most complete and attractive graduate schemes out there. The placement year gives you an opportunity to see the industry and if it’s for you. I absolutely loved the tech industry and sales. For me no other grad scheme gives such worldclass training and responsibility.
The Culture
As a placement cohort there is over 50 placement students who all work/live in a similar area. So for making friends the placement is fantastic. I have made real friends for life. Living and working in London is also an amazing experience for someone early on in their career as there is always something to do
West London is quite expensive however it’s doable
The nightlife in the city of London is great after work. There is always somewhere to go for a drink and food which after a day at work with the team or their interns is a great way to build relationships. Enables you to bond with colleagues and interns alike.
