The Role
I really enjoyed my experience. This was a great opportunity to learn about the banking industry, make friends and decide if this is an appealing career. I found that everyone was extremely helpful, taking time out of their day to give help and advice.
There was a real sense of team spirit on my desk, what's more there was collaboration between neighbouring desks. I was immediately made to welcomed and part of the team.
My manager took the time to discuss my summer project regularly to maintain the right direction and answer the questions I had. Similarly, when it came time to present my project, my manager dedicated several opportunities to run through it to make sure I delivered flawlessly on the day.
This was a busy ten weeks. But that meant that I was immersed in the day-to-day activities and picked up information quickly. Even so, there were plenty of opportunities to network with colleagues and socialise with friends after work.
Interns are given a lot of responsibility, but at an appropriate level. I was responsible for transcribing earnings calls, writing a short report on company results for traders and contributing to a research primer.
This internship is an excellent exercise in time management, as you are busy throughout the working day. I also found that I avoided procrastination, starting work well ahead of the deadline. This discipline will serve me well in my studies in my final year.
The Company
As mentioned, there is a real team spirit in the office. This extends just beyond your chosen desk. Colleagues from other desks would introduce themselves and I would often go for coffee with them.
The internship is very well organised, to the extent that I do not have any real recommendations. There are multiple speeches organised with senior staff and hearing about their perspective and experience was very valuable.
The bank invests heavily in its employees. We received Microsoft Excel, Bloomberg and Thomson Reuters Eikon training. What's more, the bank provides interns with a free 12-month subscription to a mediation app. Finally, the food and facilities are excellent.

There is a clear progression path within the company and the company culture makes it a great place to work. Having spoken to many colleagues, it is not unusual for people to spend many years working for the bank.
The Culture
The interns are all very friendly and we socialised at least once a week. We would often go for drinks on Friday's and meet up over the weekend. There are plenty of bars and restaurant close to the office.
The bank is situated in the city, so comparatively drinks and food are quite expensive. Nevertheless, the quality and atmosphere are nice.
The bank isn't far from Farringdon which is good for nights out. Similarly, the tube station is nearby. There are plenty of bars and restaurants nearby.
The bank runs plenty of activities such as football, rugby, yoga and kickboxing. What's more, there are lots of local gyms in the area.
