The Role
The placement was highly insightful, I was given access to a wide range of employees whom I could learn from and get a feel for the business. I had a wide variety of tasks to complete and felt as though despite the short time there I could leave a real impact.
Working in a small team of six I was able to forge a close bond with them, I am still in touch with them after my internship and look forward to meeting them again soon! I was particularly impressed with the candid feedback I received from everyone I asked, allowing me to develop myself.
I had a direct manager whom I could liaise with should I ever need support, in addition I had a dedicated buddy who I could turn to if I had questions that perhaps weren't appropriate for my manager. Failing that I'm sure anyone in the office would be open to answering my questions.
There were times at the start of the internship that were a little quiet however this was to be expected. After the first couple weeks I had a consistent stream of work that I was free to use my own initiative to manage. Work hours for me were roughly nine to five but your results may vary.
I was given plenty of responsibility on tasks that had a real impact on those around me, I left RBC leaving a real impact that hopefully will last for a long time! You will be given responsibility in line with your ability to take it on and placed according to your strengths so there is no need to fret.
I had the opportunity to work with many tools and technologies that I previously had no experience with, I'm sure I'll use these in my future career and will be of benefit where ever I go. The business awareness you will develop by having access to almost anyone in the bank is of great benefit too.
