The Role
Spent 8 weeks on the circle square project in Manchester. It was interesting, engaging and no two weeks were the same which prevents you getting bored as the work changes as the project progresses.
Everyone was friendly sociable and welcoming. People would answer my questions regardless of department or position.
Everyone was willing to help and advise. This came from many different employees. Help was always easy to come by if required.
There was never a day where there was nothing for me to do or assist with. However there were quite times throughout the placement.
I was surprised by how much I was allowed to do and got to work independently throughout the placement. They provided an opportunity to see a real insight to the type of work I would be expect to do as an employee which greatly helps development.
Invaluable experience in a range of areas. Applied learning from my degree which helps strengthen understanding. Additionally learned new things which you could only get from first hand on site experience that will be essential later in both my degree and career.
The Company
It was professional being a large project however for its scale it was very relaxed. You would not be disciplined for having a chat and everyone was very friendly.
I had plenty of information and the contact details of people both running my site and the company head office long before my placement started. Any questions I had would be answered very quickly. No issues whatsoever.
Throughout the placement I was being trained in the use of many different pieces of equipment and practices. With the help of Sisk I was able to get my CSCS qualification. Taking me on as an intern is an investment in itself and the Excellerate scheme offered shows their willingness to invest in their employees
There are many great opportunities offered through Sisk. Not only do they offer a first class graduate scheme aimed at helping you achieve chartership as fast as possible but they also offer the chance to work on a massive range of large and varied projects internationally.
The Culture
There were several nights out organised and open to all members of the office where all were to come along for food and drinks after work.
It was very affordable, busses were very expensive but accommodation could be found for very fair prices.
Manchester offers a wide range of bars clubs restaurants and other facilities. A great place to live.
There were various charity fund raising events organised open to all.
