The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed working in my team. My colleagues were a joy to work with and made the day very exciting. As you would expect there were early starts at 7am and work finshed at 5pm. This was not a concern as days would fly by on the site. One thing to note is that you have to be willing to go on site early in the morning to set equipment up.
At the start I had to build the trust up of my colleagues, however after I had built up this trust, I was given many jobs to perform. This ranged from set up levels, setting out points, surveying to delivery checks. The team took me out for a meal + drink as a thank you for my contribution.
Whenever I had any queries I felt very comfortable asking my buddy, managers or colleagues. My manager would ask me of my well being and how my work is getting on a daily basis helping me along the way. Additionally they would go out of their way to help me.
I would say I was busy 99% of the time and some days I would stay late to oversee concrete pouring. At the beginning of the placement I had more free time. However I had a lot more work to do by the end of the placement meaning I was very busy.
the responsibility I was given was very rewarding as it meant I could learn a lot more. The level of responsibility increased as time went on and as I built my trust with my colleagues. responsibilities ranged form completing Risk Assesment Method statements, Hand Arm Vibrations Syndrome, using the Total station and levels and check deliveries.
I learnt how to manage my time and how to wake up so early in the morning. Both which require a lot of discipline. Additionally to this I improved my communication skills and professional work skills. Most importantly I understand a lot of what I have been learning a lot more now, after seeing it first hand.
The Company
The atmosphere in the office was livened up by a number of colleagues, and gave the office a good laugh on a daily basis. The mood wasn't very dull and you didn't always have to be on your best "behaviour" which I thought was one of the best bits of the job
very well, the hr team did a great job of keeping me informed of any arrangements and put me in contact with the necessary personnel from a early date meaning I could take the necessarily actions. Regular emails helped me in the loop.
The company had a induction day in their Solihull office learning about the company and ethics. As well as this I carried out the CSCS trainee training.

Very appealing, the graduate scheme at the company looks very good and allows you to visit various sites and learn a vast amount in a short space of time.
The Culture
We went on a night out towards the very end of my placement as a thank you for my contribution.
Did not live or socialise in the area.
Did not experience the nightlife.
Yes, the comapany ran many initiatives to get people thinking about other things. Such as a bike ride and a initiative to get you walking more, through a company challenge to achive 10,000 steps daily.
