The Role
The team create a fantastic atmosphere that is great to work in. We enjoy each others company whilst working to the best of our ability.
I assumed that i would be treated as an office junior, asked to make tea and do the photocopying but its not like that one bit. The manager here has a very strong opinion of student placements and absolutly wants the best experience for them.
Absolutly, as before, they only want the best experience for you!
The atmosphere is relaxed and as long as your work is completed on schedule, you can take it at your own pace. Some days more work comes in that others but there is always something to be doing.
My role is largely taken up by management of all the IT Training Programmes that the Informatics Education Training and Development Department run. I schedule the courses, advertise them by keeping our trust intranet up to date, manage the waiting lists and book people onto the courses they require. I have also, with assistance, taken a lead on big projects such as the Microsoft Academy, ECDL and Essential IT Skills. I've alot of responsibility regarding them for example, attending and contrubuting in meetings accross the country, choosing and ordering marketing material and making decisons as to how, where and when it will be taught, even running drop in sessions and invigilating tests when needed. Another aspect of my job is to assist students using the e-learning website. Many people come accross dificulties especially those with little PC knowledge. So as you can see, i have alot of responsibility and am learning new things all the time, i couldnt have wished for anything better.
The main benefit for my final year is that i will be used to getting up and into uni, we work on flexi time here, but i prefer to get in for 8.30ish and get off earlier. I always thought it would be difficult to work full time having been a student, so working here has gently eased me into the world of work, and i enjoy feeling like i'm making a difference.
The Company
The atmosphere is great, everyone are friends aswell as collegues and its very welcoming and friendly.
The first few weeks were mostley about deciding what my main roles would be as there were supposed to be two students, however they only recruited one. I have loved the flexibility and being able to do different things all the time, developing the role as i go.
As i mentioned before my manager isnt just focused about what she can get from me but about what i can get from the placement, furthering my experience seems her main priority.
Flexi Time
Company Parties/Events
Above 25 days holiday
There is a Graduate Scheme with the Strategic Health Authority. I hear they look favourably among previous NHS employees.
The Culture
n/a as i was the only student in my department however the social scene among the staff is great.
The accomodation is expensive in the city centre but if your willing to travel a couple of miles in then its not so bad, ans transport links in Leeds are great.
Great variety or pubs, bars and clubs. Alot of student nights if you want to save a few pennies.
We often meet up outside of work or on a weekend. We even went to a theme park last month.
