The Role
Enjoyed it thoroughly, the internship was planned and executed well. It delivered exactly what it promised, with the added bonus of meeting senior leadership. The only drawback was being placed away from London, but I was an exception. Most interns were based in Canary Wharf.
Very, people took the time out to help.
Proactiveness was expected, where direction was required it was provided.
For an intership i wanted to be continuously busy, I got that.
I prepared for my role by reading a dummies guide on the principal technology my department uses. That knowledge and being proactive fostered a lot a trust. I was given a considerable amount of responsibility in the role a Project Manager, despite being just an intern. That responsibility allowed me deliver real value.
The internship helped to develop a few technical skills which will prove to be useful.
The Company
The office was a typical open plan office with a amiable atmoshpere.
Everything was carefully planned and well executed, feedback was requested to implement any changes in the next intake.
There were no specific external training courses, but the internship itself can be seen as good presonal development experience.
National Travel
Company Parties/Events
I was offered a job after the internship. Since its a great programme, I was glad to accept.
The Culture
There was a good community of interns with night outs for birthdays etc. I lived with anther intern. It was great.
Where i was based there was little to do, but Manchester was a train ride away. It is worth noting that most of the interns were based in London and had better social options. Only a few are actually placed where I was.
Small town not much nightlife
We did 'Citizenship Days', where we taught money skills to children. Organised an intern event with Barclays giving us a budget. We went go karting.
