The Role
A great internship led by an organised and welcoming team. The internship helps to provide a great deal of insight into the type of work that is delivered by Deloitte, in addition to the quality expected from the company. The SVS programme is well planned and welcoming to people of all backgrounds.
The leaders of the scheme, the buddies and the other interns were all very inclusive and welcoming throughout the programme. I also experienced a very positive work culture client side, having the opportunity to have lunch was several different colleagues both from within, and outside of Deloitte. They valued my work and personal contribution to projects, and were interested in my life and future aspirations.
The scheme leads were always accessible and ready to accommodate. In addition to this, each intern was provided with a 'Buddy' to help assist them through the formalities of the scheme, and to provide additional assistance should that be required. Finally, the managers that accompanied us during our assignments were friendly and understanding - pushing us to get the most out of our summer internship at Deloitte.
Discussing with other members of the SVS programme, I discovered that the amount of work you pick up during the scheme depends on your personal involvement and contribution to arising tasks. If you want to maximise you experience, your manager is able to give you additional tasks and projects to work with. However, if you show a lack of interest, you are less likely to complete more than what is expected of you.
A great deal of responsibility was given to interns who showed diligence and awareness. Showcasing your abilities to complete tasks effectively and efficiently communicates that you are able to deal with additional responsibilities. In this regard, the degree of responsibility lies with how confident your manager is in your abilities, along with how you present yourself in the beginning of the scheme.
The Summer Vacation Scheme at Deloitte provides level of insight into the lifestyle of a consultant which is invaluable when making future career decisions. The skills that I learned and developed during the internship will also provide additional methodologies for completing future tasks both at University, and in a professional environment.
The Company
There was a clear focus towards having a relaxed environment to work in. My experience reflected that both Deloitte and the Clients understood that making your employees comfortable will have a positive impact on the work that they deliver. Other than this, project timelines were well defined - hence it was noticeable in the atmosphere of the office when projects were approaching roll-out.
The company provided clear, focused induction days to welcome us to Deloitte and focus our attention to the skills that would be required of us throughout the programme. We ran mock simulations and case studies along with the scheme leads prior to being assigned to a client. This helped to develop relevant skills and prepare us for what was to come during the internship.

The Culture
All of the interns were interested in networking and getting to know everyone personally. This aspect, combined with the social events that were arranged for us, allowed everyone to get a chance to familiarise themselves with each other. Outside of the arranged events, we made a personal group chat for all members included in our scheme and arranged many other events of our own throughout the programme.
There were many socials that were arranged by the scheme leads for the interns. Many of these involved networking through drinks/dinner which allowed us to get to know each other and our 'Buddy' a little better. Furthermore, there were other exciting activities such as a team based treasure hunt across London, a table tennis event and an opportunity to have breakfast with a partner from Deloitte.
