The Role
I had a really great time on the internship. Since the second day the scheme leaders really put a lot of effort into getting everyone to know each other and we had weekly socials. I was placed in a fun team where I was doing meaningful work and never getting coffees or anything like that. The atmosphere was relaxed and friendly.
The people I worked with treated me like any other analyst. I was always treated with respect and never talked down upon. They were always appreciative when I produced quality work and were understanding when something needed to be changed. I had many conversations with people in different teams and in positions much higher than me, but always felt like an equal.
I think I definitely received the right amount of support. The scheme leads were very helpful on group chats and always answered questions promptly. In my team, the work I was doing certainly got some getting used to, and I needed quite a bit of help getting introduced to technical programs. But I never felt guilty or bad asking and they were always kind.
The work that I was doing was generally in release cycles, which meant some days would be a lot busier than others. There were never any days when I really had to stay a lot later because we didn't have deadlines for a specific date or time. Some days I didn't really do much because there was no work but that is to be expected
I was given as much responsibility as all the other members of my team. I was first assigned some of the easier technical tasks as I needed to get used to all the pieces of software. In the team, tasks are not generally assigned, everyone just works through the pack together and once I was up to speed I was doing the same calibre of work as everyone else
Although it was only five weeks, I think I got a good understanding about how businesses and websites work on a larger scale. It was of course great to work on my team work skills also, but to be honest I think what I have learnt will be applied after my degree, not during it.
The Company
The atmosphere was just what I would have wanted in the office. When it was time to work, everyone got to it and no one was slacking about. But when it was time to relax or work at a lesser pace, the vibes were great and I really was enjoying my time in the office. There was an espresso machine, ping pong and VR too which was fun!
I really appreciated how well the scheme had been set up by the leads. All the interns were always interacting, especially at the weekly socials and I this led to me making some great friends. On my team the first few days were not so organised but after that I felt like I had a solid schedule.
Company Parties/Events
I received an offer for a graduate scheme and am certainly very thrilled to take that on next year. It really showed me a place where I can enjoy to be at work and not be dreading Monday coming around. It combines interesting work, great social life and a great company name. Some of my friends at other companies will be better paid but this is not such a concern for me
The Culture
Absolutely. Everyone I met was really fun and keen to meet some new people and have a good time. Since many people did not live in London, this added to proactive socialising. I would often go to the pub with other interns and occasionally out to dinner and beyond (including a club and a karaoke bar)
