SVS Student Review

I really enjoyed my Summer Vacation Scheme at Deloitte in Gatwick. The rotational aspect of it was great as I got to experience lots of different work within different teams, and managed to find out what I am truly motivated by (and what I will now being doing as a career).

Everyone who I worked with seemed very interested in the work that I produced and they were very grateful for my efforts. Even outside of the actual scheme, the on-boarding team were extremely helpful and answered all of my queries promptly. Additionally, after the scheme, I am still in touch with some employees which makes me feel valued and not just a temporary SVS student.

Everyone at the Gatwick offices were more than willing to help me. They would encourage me to ask questions and organise regular catch-up sessions to ensure I was coping with the task I had been given. I felt comfortable enough to approach any member of the team if I had a query and they would provide me with as much support/guidance as they could.

Seeing some of the work I had done at Uni in a practical application was really interesting. Moreover, when I went back to Uni to do my final year, I already had some knowledge which gave me a head start in some of my modules. I think that if I hadn't done the SVS scheme, I would have come out with a lower mark in my degree.

It was clear that the scheme was very organised. From the first day we were told what we would be doing for the next few weeks, with who, and on what. I was also given opportunities to go and work in London for a few days which was an added bonus and I am grateful that this was organised for me.

Deloitte in Gatwick have a really great office environment. Most of the employees were really nice and created a great atmosphere - they have drinks in the kitchen on a Friday which is fun and go out for lunch regularly which is a really great way to meet new people in the office.

All the employees were very happy to help me, even though I could see they were very busy a lot of the time, they would have no issue in stopping and explaining something to me. They would organise regular meetings to give me new work or ask what I wanted to get involved in.

Working for Deloitte in Gatwick over summer really helped me understand what my life would be like if I was successful in securing a full-time position with the company when I graduated. I was able to see the work I would be expected to do, and what was expected of me, as well as the social aspect to the job.

This is one of the main reasons that I applied for the SVS scheme. I wanted to find out wether Deloitte was a good fit for me and wether their values and culture matched with mine. It is easy to read many things about a company's culture but I don't think you truly understand it until you are immersed in it.

I now know exactly what I want to do as a professional career! I didn't know that the scheme would help me as much as it did in finding out what truly motivates me and what I am good at. I have now secured a job in London in the tax line that I wanted - and I could not have done this without the SVS scheme!

I was paid well for the summer with Deloitte which made me feel a lot more valued and not just someone who was there temporarily or to do some cheap work. The company also paid for my travel expenses and some lunches when I was anywhere but my normal offices which, as a student, was great!
