The Role
I have a wonderful experience here as everyone is very friendly and helpful. Even though I am just an intern, I felt very welcomed to the team and is able to contribute not just to the team but to the whole department as well. I really enjoy my work here.
Although I am just an intern, they value my opinions and always involve me in their daily stand ups and weekly Scrum meetings. They also invited me to info share sessions to make sure I am able to make the most out of my 10 weeks experience here
I was working in close proximity with my team and constantly get help from my team members. Sometimes they might be busy answering support calls but they get back to me right after. My manager is very understanding and caring about my progress as a summer intern in his team
I have a good balance between resting and doing work especially during lunch time. Everyone is really casual and friendly. I have time to go around the office and have a look at what's the other team is working on and share my work with the other interns as well.
I was given full responsibility for my project and I have deadlines to meet. My manager just gave me brief introduction on what I have to do and not 'spoonfeed' me all the time. I am expected to create my own issues and workload rather than being allocated by my manager.
I learnt a lot of communication and networking skills as it is very important for me to know the right person to ask to solve my problem. I have also learn how to prioritise my tasks as I am not able to complete the whole project tasks but able to deliver most of the important ones
The Company
It was super fun to be an intern in JP Morgan as I get the chance to meet so many interesting people. Everyone is so friendly and even though I have an accent, they try their best to understand me and accept my opinion. I feel really appreciated as a intern.
Everything was well set up for me right from the beginning which saves me a lot of time which would otherwise be spent waiting for request to be approved. The project tasks I was given was really fun and it is very feasible for the 10 weeks period I am interning
I have got a chance to join one of the training hosted by the company. There are several opportunities for me to discover the areas that I like and join groupds that I am interested in for example clean coding group. It is a very good opportunity especially for interns
Flexi Time
Working from home
I have secured a job offer in JP Morgan next year. It is a wonderful opportunity for me as there is so much to learn in the company itself. They sponsor international work Visa which is something very appealing to me as I do not have to go back and apply for Visa and go through the trouble
The Culture
Yes. We have a lot of social events to network between interns and also the employees. We had bowlings for interns and also in our department and it was great fun to be able to join such events and network with other people. It is important to have fun in the company
The cost of living is affordable as there are so many groceries shop like Tesco and Sainsbury nearby. There are also free coffee and hot chocolate dispenser in the floor that I worked in. We have a common room to eat lunch together and microwave to heat up our own food
I am not particularly interested in the nightlife but I am aware that there are many bars and pubs around the place I worked in. Sometimes social events are hosted at these places and it is quite fun to chill around even though I did not drink much at all
There are alot of opportunities outside of work like Badminton after work. As I mentioned before, sometimes we get social events with the team or the whole department which helps to know more people and network with each other. There are Ignite groups thats have meeting after work to develop our own personal skills
