The Role
The job itself was interesting to learn in the first six months and once I got the hang of it, it became easier to carry out my daily tasks. The company culture is excellent which is reflected in my interactions with people I was never fortunate enough to meet.
Extremely so, my team was the most enjoyable part of my job. I enjoyed coming to work because I understood the people I was working with and how I would fit into the dynamic.
I was fortunate enough to be in the vicinity of several managers who actively tried to develop us as interns. I gained a mentor whilst at work who offered me important guidance whenever I asked. I'm also aiming to reflect the qualities of my direct managers when I reenter the workplace.
My team operated on a monthly target basis so the first 2 weeks of a month were quiet as we were waiting for tasks upstream to take place, then the last 2 weeks would become more pressurised which suited my style of work. In the first 2 weeks I was given the chance to pursue interests outside my daily tasks.
Once I had a full understanding of my job I was given the lead on a section of a wider project. It was the first time I'd done anything like this so was a huge learning curve but was entrusted to engage senior managers across different business areas. My job itself was critical to allowing normal functioning of the business to continue.
Very much so, as a business student in final year I am now seeing the application of what we are covering in lectures. I can bring real experiences to the more complicated theory that previously I had nothing to draw from.
The Company
There were several events over the year which gained the interest of the floor. We had a bi-weekly floor awards for colleagues who had done exceptional work in that time period. Outside of that there was an employee appreciation week which recognised the hard work everyone had put in over the year. This was my favourite period of the year.
For me it was great because I had been placed in a role I could get to grips with relatively quickly with a team who had an intern crossing over as I started. There were several opportunities over the year to speak to the HR reps about our feelings on the placement and how we were getting on.
I believe this was one of the things the firm is actually strongest at. There are managers who will be in charge of pushing initiatives if your manager isn't fully invested in the idea themselves. I presented to the highest level of people I could on site and had the chance to share university related work with them too.

I will be returning and looking to explore other business areas. I can honestly see myself being a lifer in the firm like my mentor has been. My aspirations are to get to the highest level possible which I appreciate will take a long time but there are enough opportunities to maintain my interest over that time period for sure.
The Culture
The placement students were relatively close and we would hang out at lunch or go on nights out together. I am looking to live with several of the students I worked with when I return to the job. I would say the only reason I haven't said 10 is because I had an equal connection with a lot of summer interns and they were definitely missed.
The rent was much cheaper than I am currently paying in university. There was a Lidl and Asda near my flat so shopping was very cheap and accessible. It was a better idea to socialise at home before going out just to keep costs down but generally it was reasonable.
Above average but most of the stuff I would have really enjoyed happened from Monday to Wednesday so I was unable to go. On the days I was able to go out it was a good mix of students from the local university and young people who must have lived in the general area.
There were several activities to get involved in such as the sponsored run in London, Bournemouth 7s with the touch team or round the island race. More regularly there were monthly volunteering days where you would be given one day free to volunteer. There were also several talks to attend that had nothing to do with daily activities, more about keeping on top of your personal life.
