The Role
I had an excellent time at my internship - my team was absolutely lovely, as were all of my coworkers. I felt very welcomed by everyone there and generally had a fantastic time.
My thoughts and suggestions were listened to and valued, especially when it came to things like front-end design. Despite being brand new at the company my manager and coworkers still valued my opinions on changes and choices, and trusted me when I said that I knew a different way to do something.
Whenever I was stuck on a problem my manager was always happy to point me in the direction of someone who would be able to offer better advice if he himself didn't know how to help.
Some days were busy, and some days could be quite slow - especially at the start when we were still setting things up - but on the whole I felt very happy with the amount of work I had.
I was given what I would consider a comfortable amount of responsibility - I definitely wasn't telling everyone what to do, but when it came to part of the project that was more my area and skillset I was encouraged to speak up more, and was trusted to work on that area without as much supervision.
As my degree is very theory-focused not all of what I learned was massively useful. However, a lot of what I learned has been extremely useful for one of my modules, and it's helped me with my dissertation as well.
The Company
The office always had an excellent atmosphere - I never felt too stressed or overworked, and if I ever did feel particularly stressed I was encouraged to leave for a bit to go for a short walk. People were friendly and happy to help and I genuinely always felt very happy arriving at the office.
Being a transgender man who's name hasn't yet been legally changed meant that I had a few issues with organising some stuff before I fully started the internship, and there were a few instances where things weren't communicated as well as they could have been, but overall the internship was fairly well organised.
Considering I left the internship with a job offer for when I graduate, I have to say very. I had a great time on my internship and I'm still friends with several members of my team - I'm very much looking forwards to finishing uni and returning to my team.
