The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed the internship as there were a broad range of activities and events that provided strong exposure to and a good understanding of J.P. Morgan and the Wealth Management division. On a firm-wide level there were a number of different events including live streams of key-note speakers, a corporate responsibility day and networking opportunities. On a department-level, interns were given exposure to day-to-day responsibilities of different roles across teams.
Throughout the internship I felt valued by my colleagues. At the start of the internship this was reflected by the time and effort that members of the team made to have one on one meetings so that I could better understand their role and experiences. Towards the end of the internship I felt valued as I was given more responsibilities. For instance, I was given the opportunity to draft client emails, presentations and portfolio reviews.
I was given support and guidance on both a formal and informal basis. On a formal level there were a couple of review meetings where our line manager assessed our performance against different criteria. In addition, on an informal basis there was always the opportunity to ask colleagues for honest advice and opinions. Both of these allowed us to highlight areas of strength and improvement.
Management ensured that interns always had a task at hand. This meant that we never felt bored and the day went extremely quickly. For instance, on a daily basis our team would give us a number of different tasks to assist them in their roles. In addition to these, we were given internship projects to work on throughout the time. This included weekly presentations as well as other research projects.
Despite the client-facing nature of the job, we were given a number of responsibilities. For example, we had the opportunity to work with clients through helping to draft emails, portfolio reviews and presentations. In addition, we were given a number of internal responsibilities that included taking minutes for team meetings and presenting in the Morning Meeting which is streamed to Wealth Management Departments across EMEA.
Throughout the internship I developed a broad range of skills. For instance, to name a few, through managing a number of varied tasks with different deadlines I developed strong organisational and time management skills. In addition, the weekly presentations and corresponding feedback meant I was able to improve my style of and confidence in presenting. Finally, completing qualitative and quantitative research aided in strengthening my analytical skills. All of this and more has already helped me in my degree studies.
The Company
The office had a very friendly atmosphere. Firstly, it had a flat structure as management sat along the same desks as the rest of the team. This meant that there was a strong team-based culture where it was easy to exchange and discuss different ideas. In addition, it was an open plan office which provided the ability to easily talk to members of different teams.
The internship was very well organised. The first of the ten weeks was dedicated to training. During this period, people both internal and external to the firm spoke to us. For instance, we had training sessions to improve our Excel, financial knowledge and presentation and networking skills. In addition to this, throughout the internship there were regular weekly meetings that provided a further insight into the firm.
As mentioned in previous answers the firm invested a lot of time and effort in training us. For instance, the first week was dedicated to broadening our understanding of the firm and the general industry. This training continued throughout the internship as there were a number of formal meetings and informal sessions.

Future job prospects with the firm are incredibly appealing. The internship provided a great insight into the actual roles and responsibilities of the job. In addition, the attention given to the interns highlights the investment that the firm makes in their new employees which strengthens the appeal of working with the organisation.
The Culture
Yes, there was a good social scene both amongst the other interns and the colleagues. The firm organised three main evening events for all interns working at J.P.Morgan. These were incredibly fun and provided the opportunity to meet others across different divisions. In addition, there were a number of organised social events within the Wealth Management division.
The offices are located in Knightsbridge, London which meant that eating out of the office and socialising after work was expensive. In addition, I was commuting from my home in North-West London which was costly as a monthly travelcard is worth £140. Therefore the overall cost of the living and socialising was very high.
The Nightlife was very good. As expected, there is a wide range of different things to do in London. This includes a good variety of restaurants, pubs, bars and clubs. The office is located outside of Hyde Park Corner station on the Picadilly Line and is in walking distance to Victoria.
Throughout the 10 weeks, the team organised two social activities outside of work. This included watching England play in the World Cup and playing Croquet in Hyde Park. In addition to these organised events, there were more informal trips to the pub. However, there were no opportunities to join a sports team.
