The Role
I have thoroughly enjoyed my internship with J.P. Morgan, it was both an enjoyable and challenging experience which has given me a flavour of what its like to work in the banking industry. I genuinely enjoyed the work I did as well as interacting with intellectual people in a stimulating environment.
Throughout my internship, from the first day onwards, my team has always made me feel welcomed and supported me endlessly. I was never made to feel as if I was an outsider, and always felt valued by my team. I certainly felt part of the team and more like an employee rather than an intern. I was given lots of responsibility and carried out work which made a difference to the team.
My manager was brilliant with me, he welcomed me from day one and genuinely cared about my development both professionally and personally. He never rushed to give me responsibility or throw me in the deep end. He gave me the time and flexibility to undertake training courses allowing me to improve my skill set whether it was working on my Excel skills or learning how to write reports. He also understood that I didn't have expertise in Finance and gave me the time to build a a solid foundation of Finance and how banking works.
I was always given tasks to complete on a regular basis and had to meet deadlines, so was never short on work to do. However the emphasis wasn't just on work, but to also network with like minded people and attend presentations ranging from artificial intelligence to Brexit talks which allowed me to broaden my horizons.
I was given lots of responsibility; I was handed a huge project in which I had to meet various stakeholders across different teams to extract the right information and had to use all my skills whether it was interpersonal skills or analytical skills for excel spreadsheets. I was also given responsibiltiy in helping team members complete their tasks. My other responsibilities also included attending stakeholder meetings and other work related meetings, but my biggest one was presenting my project work to Executive and Managing Directors globally.
I have developed my skill set massively, and also being surrounded by intellectual people has taught me to think in an abstract way. These are all transferable skills which I will certainly apply in my degree whether its my written communication, excel skills and presentation skills. Not will I only benefit in my degree but also in other activities such as sport where I can demonstrate my team-ethic.
The Company
The atmosphere in the office has always been pleasant and an enjoyable one to be in. Of course there will be some good working days and other days will be frustrating but the atmosphere has always been consistent in the sense that everyone is willing to help each other out and support each other regardless of what the mood is like.
The overall internship was very well organised, we had the perfect balance between working in our teams and attending networking sessions with intellectual minds as well as listening to interesting presentations. We were also given the opportunity to see the work J.P. Morgan carries out in the local communities by undertaking a social responsibility day in which we worked in the local community.
From the first day of my internship, my manager emphasised the importance of personal development and undertaking as much training as possible to broaden my skill set. I was given the time to undertake training courses in which i was allowed to build my financial knowledge. The company are hands-on with training and genuinely want to invest in its people, this was evident when I was allocated to training courses before my internship started so that I could hit the ground running when i started.

Future prospects are bright within the organisation, they are always actively monitoring interns to assess whether they are suitable for a job. Depending on performance, they will willingly want to offer you a job if you perform, they want you to do well and try to help you to reach your goals. I was fortunate enough to be offered a job at the end of my internship.
