The Role
I loved the placement and the training Expedia Group provides the people starting at the company. What I slightly missed, due to change of managers, was a clear goal setting, mid placement conversation and end conversation with regards to my own goals, the company its goals and the goals provided by university.
The colleagues at Expedia Group are all extremely warm, open and always willing to help. Every time I had a question - which was a lot- the team is open for it and they really take the time to support and help you improve or listen in to help you afterwards.

Next to the day to day job, I was given several projects to work on and events to organise. I got the support when I needed it, but could work independently as well. The projects kept me busy and I was also able to fill in my own time where needed or wanted.
I had my own portfolio of hotels that I was looking after and during the projects I was completely organising it myself from A to Z. I got support when asked for and had regular catch-ups with team members when needed or wanted. However, responsibility was all with me. :)
I have done my final research for the company - which is something I would not have been able to do without the knowledge gained during my internship. Moreover, the skillset I have learned in terms of general training, but also communication skills and the way we have been trained, will help me forever in any type of job
The Company
The general atmosphere in the office is very inclusive, diverse, lively and casual. There is a lot of laughter and joking around, whilst on moments needed there is a serious work atmosphere as well. There are competitions against each other or other teams, which enhances the work environment in general.
I believe that the biggest improvements lay here - interns I have followed after my own internship had a completely different way of filling in their internships. I believe a clearer structure and alignment is needed on what interns do and what they are trained on - and not just "cheap labour" doing the job of an MA.
Great investment - I had regular catch-ups and one on one's with my managers or people that I asked for support. There is a general training of 4 days that I followed, where you get all the knowledge you need to be set-up for the job and working for Expedia Group.

Working from home
It is very appealing - hence the reason why I decided to stay within the company when the opportunity was there. You get a lot more benefits and you will be guided in a different way, but I strongly believe in the culture where you can stay within the company if time is right.
The Culture
I did not meet many other placement students, however the social scene amongst colleagues is amazing - there are many drinks and events and parties and ways of socializing and getting to meet colleagues. I would highly recommend this part of the company - it is great and easy to meet new people.
London is expensive - that is a fact. Even though getting a financial benefit whilst doing the internship, London remains expensive and it is highly recommended to have a bit of money on the side to be able to do groceries and go out and join certain events - with the company or outside.
It is London - many pubs, clubs, restaurants, markets etcetera are near the office or in the city. It is amazing to live in and a very vibrant and dynamic city - there is always something to do for any type of person - no matter if you like books or nights out.

Giving back to the community is also highly valued in the company.
