The Role
There was a great environment, and I was always surrounded by very smart people. I worked within Technology, where there was a lot of space to innovate and propose new ideas! They really did take care of you by offering tons of socials and parties, it was an amazing experience overall.
JP morgan understands the value of Technology roles, and treats them to the same standards of the core roles, i felt very valued, and was constantly reminded that we are the future of tomorrow. We had roughly 65 tech interns, and this was roughly the same amount of interns from other divisions.
I was given great support from my supervisor. He was there to help whenever I needed it, and was very approachable and easy to talk to. I was working on an intentional team, so guidance was given by the teams abroad as well who had more in depth knowledge of the specific systems I was working with.
I was pretty busy, but this was by choice. JP Morgan gives you a lot of opportunities to work on technology projects in Fintech, and has an internal hackathon which was great for inspiration. One of the projects I worked on the hackathon actually continued throughout my internship and i worked on multiple projects as a result! Recommended!
In the internship I was given full responsibility, there was trust from their part, and access was given to the systems which were required by my job. The system that I implemented was going to be used in production after I left, which is a great feeling to know that I produced something worth while.
JP morgan offered a range of ways to improve my skills and offered various trainings. They had presentations and workshops of their internal systems and tools but as well we had Cyber security training, coding training was also all available through the intranet to those who were after improving their coding skills.
The Company
Quite surprisingly, the bank was quite techie in terms of what people were talking about, but more conventional in terms of the physical atmosphere of the bank. I quite enjoyed this mix, and people around me were very happy and motivated to be working there which is always a goo thing.
The placement was very well organized, HR did a good job of always keeping us busy with networking events, presentations and talks as well as socials. There was also a hackathon that took part during the internship which all tech interns took part in. The induction was very well organized and helped transition.
The company invested in all tech interns with a cyber security program which taught you how to code in a secure way, and at the end of the program there was a company wide competition to see how well we could code securely. Apart from this, there were a vast range of ways we could develop our skills.
Company Parties/Events
There is a chance of Grade scheme offers on the final day of the internship.
The Culture
Yes there were about 3 socials which were organized by HR, as well as various opportunities to network and enjoy the Fire side chats with some important figures in the finance industry or other industries. We also had a chat for all interns in each geographic location which was great!
London prices
Great - same as London.
We had many opportunities. One example is the volunteering day we have at JPMorgan. All interns are expected to attend. It is an entire day or volunteering. In our case we went to a council estate and helped out with various tasks needed to be done (painting the fences, cleaning etc.)
