The Role
The work was interesting and my manager tailored it to what I was interested in which was really great. However, at times I do believe I could have been doing more challenging work . Despite this, I do feel that i had enough work and i was never short of things to be doing.
I did feel valued a lot by my colleagues. They all had a genuine interest to help me and went out their way to put me in contact with their own connections who they believed could help me in the future regard my uni dissertation etc.
I feel that my manager was very supportive. he was very encouraging of me to pursue my own interests and finding out more about specific departments/areas of the business that interested me more. In regards to the specific work I was doing for them, he was great at giving me constant constructive criticism and helping on areas I could improve.
I always had enough work to be doing however at no point did I feel like I was 'drowning' or that I couldn't finish all my work by the end of the day. I do think I definitely could have been given more work to do.
More than I expected before starting the internship. I was doing work that actually mattered and not just completing tasks in order to fill my day up with something to do. This was a big highlight of my internship and I am glad this was the case.
In regard to my degree, I do not think a huge amount and I was learning practical skills rather than theoretical skills. However, beyond my degree, I believe I learnt skills that will very much help me as I start my employment journey
The Company
I very enjoyed the atmosphere. It was very chilled and made me feel very comfortable working without feeling that I constantly had somebody looking over my shoulder. However, I do feel with the location of the office it did lack a social aspect to it in the sense that it is difficult to arrange something after working hours.
I believe the internship was organised well in terms of events and structure, however, I think that in regards to the mark we received from managers there is a flaw. There was no mediator to ensure that every manager was marking candidates the same and I believe this wasn't very fair.
I think this different department to department. I was lucky that my manager supported me in wanting to do a training course and also visit teams in other locations for exposure. This definitely helped me and gave me an insight into the career i want to follow
Flexi Time
National Travel
Company Parties/Events
I think the flexbile working is a big appealing factor to myself. Even from talking to people in my team they spoke very highly about how flexible RBS was as a whole and many of them worked from home 1 day a week and worked compressed hours into a 4 day week.
The Culture
to a certain extend. It is difficult being in an office so far away from the centre of town as this means lots of people have to travel a fair distance to get there and may not want to do something after working hours. However, lots of events organised by the bank that helped people prepare so they could attend.
Pretty standard Edinburgh pricing.
Again being so far out of town there is nothing around the office. So it is poor around where the office is. However there is good transport links into the centre
yes, there were lots of official ones run by the bank and also unofficial events too. There was constantly notices up informing staff of various events happening in local areas.
