The Role
The internship was a great opportunity to establish an understanding of what actually happens within investment banking like no research could have ever done. I enjoyed the internship a lot due to how friendly everyone was at the firm and the content of the work I was given was interesting.
My colleagues were very grateful with the work I was producing for them and I had a great relationship with them. Many of whom I will aim to keep in touch with. Nothing was ever too much of an ask for anyone and they were always will to help.
If ever I was struggling on a task, I could always ask my supervisor who would guide me in the right direction. I feel there was a good balance between given responsibility and also guidance when it was neeeded.
Very busy
The responsibility factor of the internship was probably what I enjoyed most. I had the opportunity to step up and participate in things which I never thought I would have during the start of the internship.
The skills I gained in terms of hard working attitude will help to assist me in my degree studies. I also believe the skills I learnt are a solid foundation for a career in the industry which is what I would like to pursue.
The Company
The office was generally a great place to be. There were times when it was quiet but that was due to individuals being busy and needing to get their work complete. It was really just an atmosphere which I expected.
The program was set up very well. The teams integrated the interns in perfectly. It really felt as if we were working at the firm full time rather than just doing work which had no benefit for the company.
The training program at the start of the internship was great. For someone who does not study finance at university, I found the training incredibly useful. You wouldn't believe how much you can learn in a week and it really gets you on a par with everybody else.
Subsidised Canteen
Subsidised/Company Gym
Healthcare/Dental
I will be joining the firm full time.
The Culture
The social scene was very good. The firm made sure that we had at least some work-life balance even though the industry is demanding. They put on a couple of internship events which meant we could socialise with fellow interns from all divisions in the bank.
London isn't the cheapest place on earth.
Canary wharf has a couple of bars which are good to go to on a friday after work. It is also close to the centre of london by tube which is where the good nighlife is.
During the internship I wanted to learn as much as possible about finance and the bank. This meant there wasn't much time to do much apart from working. The work load was also high which I found really interesting.
