The Role
I had a great time on my internship. My team were absolutely brilliant, helping me with all my problems and giving me nothing but support throughout the entirety of my time. I also enjoyed the days and events that got me out of the office, as well as the effort made to really give us as much knowledge as possible about other roles.
I did not feel too valued at the start, but that was to be expected. It was nice noticing the dependence between me and my team the more work they were giving me. Being able to support them in times where they were experiencing problems by taking on extra work really helped make me feel important.
My manager was brilliant. He helped me with everything. When he was busy, he would still find time later on in the day to give me answers to questions I had. For this reason I cannot give any less than a full ten out of ten marks for the question.
Up until around 1pm I was very busy doing my daily tasks. After this time however, I found myself to have quite a fair bit of spare time. I have given five because for half of my internship I was busy, but it took me five weeks to gain access to the company's systems.
I ran most of my desk's risk position, and took on board two completely new processes. For this reason I believe my managed gave me a copious amount of responsibility over my internship. I was left to not only take part in the exchange, but then run them every day and then teach the rest of my team.
While they won't have much carry over to my degree in Mathematics, the skills I have acquired have given me a lot of confidence for coming into the full time role next year. My IT skills pre-internship I felt were somewhat lacking, but now I feel are to a good enough level to help give me that strong foundation I needed.
The Company
I loved working within commodities. The team were all lovely, and was totally different to the kind of vibe I was expecting. Everyone was extremely approachable, all willing to help me with any problems I had, and all willing to tell me a little bit about their specific role within commodities.
I thought it really was well organised, the whole thing. I just felt as though I got a bit of bad luck waiting as long as I did for my access to kick in. That is the only negative I have to say, and otherwise I realised pretty much everyone else didn't have the same experience as me, so I chalked it down to bad luck.
I felt as though they did invest a lot, I did enjoy the Excel training at the start, but I felt as though I could have done with a more basic coding event to help create macros, however that may bit a wee bit too advanced for just an internship.

Very appealing, with a lot of room to move up in the future. The graduate programme offering three years with three different rotations gives me the chance to really delve deep into three completely different roles to really give me a great insight into finance and business management as a whole.
The Culture
It was very good, however I did not have enough of a chance to really engage with the social life due to my commute home, My commute was roughly two hours, and so staying too late could result in me not being able to make it home, which was very tough on a Thursday when everyone went out and I had work the next day.
It is London, all bar one was relatively cheap. But otherwise drinks were normal London prices, which differ somewhat to the usual prices of spoons I have grown used to in my time as a student, Otherwise though I believe I can find a flat at a reasonable price next year.
I did not really get the chance to properly go out for the reasons said above unfortunately. By all accounts the night life was very good, just very expensive. I guess that is something I will grow used to to be honest. I thought the organised socials were fantastically done.
There were, both my team and other interns were constantly doing things after work or during lunch breaks. I went out and grabbed a fair few coffees with people and got introduced to some half decent grubberies around the area too. I think this very much depended on who you knew though.
