About You
I thoroughly enjoyed my Insight Day at M&G - in particular, I felt that the talks were most useful to me in firstly, learning more about the Investment Management sector and secondly, by understanding and learning the importance of prioritising ESG factors in sustainable investing. I also felt that the networking session over lunch was very useful for me to get a better sense of the company & I felt very encouraged by my conversations that day.
I immediately got a very strong feel of the culture despite it just being one day at M&G. I enjoyed every conversation and personally felt I made connections where I could see genuine friendships forming. The impression I got of the firm was overall very positive and I knew this is somewhere I could see myself working at.
I had a decent amount of guidance and support during the insight. I felt that for the trading exercise, it was a very fun way of introducing the idea of analysis and fund management. However, I felt like it was not very detailed and could be further improved in future case studies. To me, I felt like a large extent of the results were not from pure skill but also to do with luck.
There wasn't much skill development during the day, particularly in the trading exercises which took up most of the day (however, it was indeed very fun). I felt most learning came from the talks as it gave an honest and important perspective into the world of investment management. I took a lot of notes and eager to see it work in real life.
The Company
I think the structure of the day was pretty good. The event ran quite smoothly. However, I felt like arranging the groups for the trading exercises was quite messy and I feel that the trading exercise could be further improved if maybe the teams were smaller, more technical analysis was actually needed other than gut feeling.
There was a generally good vibe running through the day. It was never too stressful and overall had a great time. I think the representatives at the event whether HR, graduate analysts or speakers all gave a very good impression of the firm. I left thoroughly impressed with the environment created at M&G
As it was only one day, there wasn't much opportunity for the firm to invest in me. However, having spoken to many individuals at the firm and listening to Lauren's talk on the recruitment process and grad scheme, I can see how I would be supported if I was chosen to work for the firm.
I had the best insight into the company culture through speaking to individuals at the networking lunch and also listening to the panel session. It was a wonderful insight into seeing how supported, guided and treasured people are to the firm. I definitely see myself working there if I'm lucky to get a job there.
100% - previously, I was on the fence about working for the sell-side or going to the buy-side but having spoken to many individuals at the Insight Day as well as listening to the talks on the Investment Management path and ESG factors in sustainable investing, I know that Investment Management is the line for me.
Everything Else
It was great speaking to individuals at the firm during the networking event over lunch. I am very grateful to have had that opportunity to meet with people, learn about their background, why they love M&G and how best to shape my career. It was definitely a day to remember for me!
