E-commerce and Business Performance Executive Review

I had a fantastic experience working for Tech Data. I worked with some amazing people who really treated me as a real employee and not just an 'intern'. I learnt so much about the company, my job role, the industry and myself. There was a lot of support throughout from my manager and other colleagues along with working with 15 other interns who worked in different areas around the business. Couldn't have had a better experience!

I felt very valued by my colleagues. Everyone was extremely welcoming and lovely, especially at the beginning when I was just getting into the job and didn't really have my grips on the role! My manager and our director were both incredibly supportive and really helped me grow and improve each day.

My manager was incredibly supportive despite being very busy. She would always check in to see how I was doing and finding the job, especially at the beginning. She was always very supportive throughout and never made me feel silly or belittled. The higher management I worked alongside was also very supportive despite their busy role and was always there to offer guidance and valuable insight into the company that I would not have known about.

It was a perfect balance most of the time. At the beginning of my role I was not very busy, but as the role grew I would have plenty of work to be getting on with. As I learned more about the business, I would never be sat 'bored' as there was always things I could be doing, including working on my own projects that I had started. The work was always varied and hardly ever repetitive. Every day was different!

I was given the perfect level of responsibilty. I was able to answer customer questions over email or the phone, assist training new starters and also do refreshment training around the department. I was also given multiple changes to run my own projects, come up with new ideas and even run an incentive for the sales teams!

The skills, training and knowledge I gained whilst working at Tech Data were priceless. I learned so much about actual 'real life' business and also a lot about myself - how I work and what really motivates me. Things that I learned during my year in industry will stay with me for many years to come, and putting these back into practice during my final university studies and especially when writing my dissertation will be something that really boosts me above my colleagues who didn't take a placement year.

Never a dull moment! There was always something happening. There were many themed sales call out day which were always great fun, with free food and goodies, balloons and games it couldn't have been a more lively environment. It was never quiet and depressing, neither was it too overwhelming that you couldn't concentrate. The perfect balance.

I think it was really well organised but I would say it depends on who your manager is. My manager really made my overall time pretty organised, it never felt like I was just a 'floater'. We had a great introduction when all the interns had started to get to know each other and have an introduction to the company.

When I first started I was encouraged to go on lots of training courses that are run at Tech Data. These were a great way to meet people and learn more about the business whilst also gaining invaluable skills that I can take anywhere. I was also taken to an expo in London which related to the business area I worked in, which was a great experience.

Extremely appealing, it was such an enjoyable time that if anything were to pop up once I have graduated, I wouldn't think twice about going back to work for Tech Data. There are so many ways to grow within and across the company that it would be a fantastic opportunity.

We had great fun. We all met each other at the beginning and went out for a pub lunch. Over the year we all formed friendships and bonds and it was lovely. We had a couple of parties and lots of opportunities to go out or have late nights at the pub! It was nice to be working alongside people in the same position as you.

I didn't have to move for my placement as I just commuted from home but socialising-wise it was just like anywhere. Not London prices, so what you would usually expect to pay at a pub!
