Summer Vacation Student Review

I very much enjoyed my experience during my three week placement in Reading. I found that the work assigned could be quite challenging, though very rewarding and enjoyable, while providing a clear insight into the practice of audit and professionalism and values of the firm.

The firm made me feel highly valued, providing assignments that would be used later in the audit process and trusting me with important tasks at various stages in both audits that I was able to be a part of.

The work assigned could be challenging and gave me a chance to use my initiative and prove myself, but I was always able to ask advice when needed and never made to feel silly when doing so. The quality and frequency of this support helped me greatly. The standout feature of my guidance was that everyone was willing to provide it, not just those directly in charge of my assignments.

The interpersonal & professional nature of the firm will, undoubtedly, improve my performance in the workplace after university, and will likely be of benefit in the final year of my degree, particularly in group projects.

The insight was very well structured. The initial introduction provided me with a good awareness of the firm and its value. Also, both audits I worked on provided me with interesting, insightful work, across different aspects of the process.

The atmosphere at Deloitte was brilliant. Everyone there was very kind and personable, while clearly very able and professional at the same time.

I feel that the firm invested a great deal in me, in terms of assigning me mentors and teams to be a part of. I also feel that each member of the audit team I was in was willing to invest time to help me and others.

Given the responsibility and trust placed in me by the firm, as well as the nature of the tasks themselves, I feel that I developed a good understanding of what a full time role would be like. I also feel that I was able to see what the role would be like on a client site, given the opportunities I had outside the office.

The insight allowed to understand not only the quality of the firm, but also the values that underpin every aspect of what they do. Every member of the firm acted in accordance with this culture and level of professionalism, highlighting it's importance to the firm.

Before the insight I was very confident of my desired career path, and my time there enhanced this desire.

There was a meal with my mentor and the mentors of others on the first day, so I was able to meet people outside my team over the course of the insight. Also, during the audits I was able to meet senior members of the team, not just my direct supervisor making me feel highly valued.

I did not find out about any firm led activities, but the members of the firm were very close and participated in activities together outside of work.

I would absolutely recommend this insight to anyone who feels that they may want to pursue a career in finance. I was very impressed with all aspects of the firm and am very pleased that i was able to work there over summer.
