The Role
I had a great time, the environment was very fun and exciting. The work was challenging enough so I was never bored and always learning.
My colleagues made me feel like an integral part of the team and not “just an intern”.
My supervisor was incredibly helpful and offered me support whenever I needed it. If he was busy and couldnt help straight away he would always get back to me on Slack to provide assistance when he could.
For the most part I was busy, but there were times my colleagues and I had finished all our work faster than expected and had to wait a little while for our next planning session to get more tasks to do.
Being on an educational project gave us more freedom to experiment and gave me the opportunity to get hands on with core parts of the project, sometimes taking the lead myself. This was incredibly useful for when I dived into DevOps, an area in which I had no experience before. I was able to learn at a much faster pace as I was dealing with the tech first hand.
A lot of the skills I’ve learnt, most notably web development, I am using extensively in my degree and beyond so getting first hand experience at Sky was incredibly helpful.
The Company
The general atmosphere was relaxed and fun for the most part.
The biggest issue I had with the whole internship were the months leading up to the internship and the first few days of the internship. There was little communication between getting the offer and the start date, it took a long time to get contracts and I felt left in the dark with bo info about my start date. The first few days were tough as we werent given any laptops, meaning we couldnt realky do much work.
I feel they adequately invested in me and provided with the necessary level of training.
Subsidised Canteen
Subsidised/Company Gym
Very excited to return to Sky in 2019 for a graduate role.
The Culture
The graduates and interns would meet for lunch nearly everyday and would often visit the pub on a friday evening after a week of work. This made the whole experience much more fun.
The area is reasonable, the subsidised canteen at Sky helped with this.
Didnt really experience much of the nightlife, but I know the area doesnt have much of it apart from a few pubs
The opportunities were mostly organised by colleagues outside of work and there were quite a few of them.
