About You
Excellent insight into the Bank of England. Involved a series of lectures, a panel session and a trading game. Day could have been slightly longer, or had staff who were higher up the ladder speaking. Nonetheless, it was very insightful and gave plenty of opportunity for networking with current interns/ recent graduates.
People were very friendly and were happy to help and to answer any questions that you had about the application process or working at the Bank in general. There were lots of staff about from different departments, as well as interns and graduates, who were all very friendly and helpful.
Lots of guidance was given and the staff were more than happy to help and answer any questions that you had. There was no contact with more senior staff, but talking to HR, interns and graduates about the different programmes on offer and the application process was certainly really useful.
It will definitely help with my career decisions and gave me a much clearer idea of the different roles and areas within the Bank, as well as the different programmes on offer to current/graduating students. The advice they gave me also helped me understand the application process and how I can prepare for it.
The Company
There was a clear structure that was issued to us beforehand and kept to throughout the day. It involved a number of short lectures from different members, panel sessions with interns and graduates, trading games and plenty of networking opportunities. There was also lots of q&a sessions to answer any questions that people had.
Very friendly and supportive staff who were happy to help and answer questions. The event was very well organised which also helped the day run smoothly. People were very positive and keen to help, answer questions and share their experiences so it was very useful in terms of networking opportunities.
It was certainly useful to chat with current interns, graduates and staff members about their role and how that fits into the whole structure of the Bank. However, having only a relatively short insight obviously did not give us a complete understanding of what it would be like to work there full time.
The insight certainly helped me understand the culture of the Bank and it was clear to see the differences in culture to a private bank. Chatting to the interns was particularly useful for this. However, such a short insight could not give a full understanding of the office culture etc.
The day was very useful in terms of setting out the programmes that are available to me and the different stages of my academic studies. The lectures and the networking sessions allowed me to gain a greater understanding of the roles on offer at the Bank that might interest me.
Everything Else
Lots of networking opportunities throughout the day with current interns, graduates and full time staff members who worked in different areas of the Bank. These were placed in between the lectures. The panel sessions involved questions and answers sessions with current graduates and interns so that was also really useful.
The length and number of networking sessions throughout the day meant that I was able to speak to a number of different people from different areas of the Bank so I got a much clearer idea of where I want to be. They also gave me lots of advice about applying.
Talking to the grads gave me a clear understanding of what the social scene is like.
I would highly recommend this insight day as it was a really great way to get a much clearer understanding of the Bank and the opportunities that it has for current students. It gave me much more confidence to apply for the intern programme so that was certainly very helpful.
