About You
I really enjoyed this insight. it was really well laid out and structured which is always good. you knew what was happening during each time as you're given a timetable and they keep to time. Th people who were invited to talk were really great and the emphasis of not having a strictly banking or finance background was really highlighted. the trading ex was really good too.
The trading ex which we had to do during the day made me feel really valued and feel included. it wasn't a boring day. it was hectic at times within your group with all the discussion and different opinions which was really good for me personally. i was group leader and this was a really good experience for me also to be in a group and leading so many diverse people.
The support and guidance provided was amazing to me personally. I am not visually disabled and the people working were kind enough to allow me to use a separate toilet during the break which was really good. when it came during the group exercise, any questions that we had was quickly answered and there were always people around who were on hand to help.
All the information given during the day are really helpful to me so much that i have decided to apply for a graduate job at M&G PRU. The information in regards to thinking beyond my degree and see how it applies to the banking industry was also really helpful as there are so many transferable skills which is at my disposal and which i can use. the skills i delveopped came during the trading ex, it really made me learn how to connect the dots when it comes to seeing how the market can be affect by the smallest ripple in the news.
The Company
As mentioned earlier the lay out and structure of the day was really great. You were given a timetable which laid out what was happening and when. it was strict timetable which they followed to the letter and that was really good. it maximised the day and made sure we all got to cover as much as we can.
The general atmosphere for me was amazing. it was one of the best insight days i have been to. From the moment you come you feel welcome and people are helpful (even the people who aren't part of the insight day staff). It was a positive and welcoming environment which i really enjoyed. I didn't feel uncomfortable at any point.
in terms of personal training and development i would say the firm went above and beyond to try and create a virtual trading platform which is hard to do. they had printed out new articles for each segment and how it would be reacting to the market. it was quite a feat and to do for our training and development was really good.
I would say while the trading ex was a virtual one and one that cannot be compared to one of real life it gave me a really good insight as i had never quite imagine or knew what trading would be like. it made me see how my job would be carried out and the skills i would require.
the insight day really helped me understand the company culture. this was done by firstly by the people who came and gave presentations. they were people from non traditional background who have risen up in the company and how they excelled. also by the network events in between the day when recent graduates who secured a job and long time employees came down to talk to us. this really gave an insight into how the company culture was.
i would say this day was very vital in helping me decide on what i want to do for my future career path. firstly it showed me the company: the culture and people in the area which i wanted to work in, it showed me that there isn't a limit on your background and any degree can work as long as you are willing to work. also the trading ex really gave me an insight which was extremely enjoyable to me and something which i want to do.
Everything Else
It was only for a day so didn't need to be reimbursed for anything i don't think. I live in London. there were people who came from outside of London who i don't think got compensated either. if you're planning on applying please contact and confirm with the people in charge.
Yes, as mentioned before there were networking lunch event in between during the day and we had a chance to talk to recent graduates who have secured a job and also long time employees. they can down and were very friendly. they were very honest and open and were very inspiring about the job they do.
It was amazing. i had loads of questions which were gladly answered. i was really worried about my lack of experience and that i wasn't doing a finance degree. but i met loads of people who didn't even study STEM subjects and this was really good to see. I was also worried about the application process. All my worries and questions were answered by the people in the event.
When it came to taking time out or having a work balance life, the employees had a lot of say about that. Most of the people as they worked in teams usually set out days after or towards the end of a project to do an activity. For example one of the person i spoke to told me how him and his group went skiing. They said the company supports them in getting involved into activities outside of work and for some of the people's work hours are flexible and they can enjoy more activities.
I would gladly recommend this insight day to a friend and have already done so. the company also didn't have strict restrictions on who can attend and who can't which is amazing as loads of companies have limitation. Anyone who is studying in which ever area of study can apply and they want to see people who don't have a traditional background.
