About You
I enjoyed the insight in the sense that it provided me with a thorough grounding in the opportunities that were available to me, were I to apply the the Bank of England for an internship or graduate role. However, I did feel as though the trading activity could have been more intellectually stimulating.
Given that it was only an insight day, I was surprised with how open and welcoming those who came to the networking session were. In such a situation, it is easy to see how employees could potentially be seeing it as a waste of time, however they were all enthusiastic and happy to answer any questions we had.
Given the short amount of time that was spent at the bank, the afternoon was very structured; hence, at no point did I feel as though I lacked guidance or support.
I wouldn't say I developed skills, however I don't believe that was the purpose of the insight activity. The information on internships and graduate opportunities received was thorough and I know myself and the other women in attendance really appreciated that.
The Company
there was never a moment in which there was nothing to do. Each activity/talk was allotted a specific time slot. To describe the insight as seamless would not be an understatement. everything ran according to the schedule we were provided.
The insight provided a good balance between being spoken to and then being able to interact with the other women in attendance hence by the end of the insight there was much more of a unified feel to the group, than at the beginning.
I wouldn't say that this question is wholly applicable to the insight since personal training and development were not the purpose of the event.
The insight held not only a networking session, in which we were able to speak to current employees at the bank, but also we were given a 45 minute talk by a full time employee, thus on both accounts we were able to understand what it would be like to work at the Bank of England.
Given that it was an insight event geared specifically towards women, this was extremely insightful as to what the culture is like given that we were able to hear it from a women's perspective.
It was valuable in the sense that it provided me with an insight into what a career in public finance would entail. Through the event I was able to grasp that maybe this is not the career for me, however, had I not been in attendance, this point would still be unsure.
Everything Else
My travel expenses were covered entirely, thus I would consider this adequate reimbursement.
There was a specific portion of the event dedicated to networking with current employees.
I believe the networking could have lasted longer seeing as I only got the opportunity to speak to a small portion of the employees in attendance.
No
If you are unsure as to what sort of financial career you want to go down then I would recommend since from the insight event I was able to grasp that public finance is very different to the private sector, hence it was useful in the sense that it helped me to differentiate the two.
